First Stories Journeys Narrator
ZDLTK91021404943X
Hello,

We are looking for an aboriginal talent to be the narrator of 2 - 30 minute regional documentaries profiling young aboriginal film makers. Must be recorded in mid September. Position falls under Canadian Media Guild - Actra or Non-Union talent are both acceptable. No exceptions, please do not audition if you do not fit this criteria.

To be broadcasted regionally in Saskatchewan on CBC, the documentary is 30 minutes long, I am not sure how long the narration is within that.

First Stories: Saskatchewan
Part 1: Personal Journeys

Exterior Agriplex, Yorkton.
(RGN30-1309) 01:00:30 - exterior shots Gallagher center Yorkton - prior to the event

One by one, we see 4 directors make their entrance and join up with their group. As each of the director’s names are read, the narration pauses slightly and the footage slows down slightly before picking up pace again.

NARRATION: “This is the story of 2 filmmakers and the personal journeys that have led them here, to Yorkton, Saskatchewan during the oldest film festival in North America."

TITLE GRAPHIC: Personal Journeys: Part 1

NARRATION: “********************************* are here as a group of 4 young aboriginal directors. They have spent the past year creating their own very personal short films as part of the First Stories program, an initiative designed to assist new aboriginal documentary filmmakers. Collectively, they have been honored with a nomination for a prestigious ******************, an achievement for even the most senior of filmmakers.”

Visuals of directors enjoying themselves, socializing with people at the event and other mingling and preparing footage. Fast paced and exciting.

(RGN30-1309) 01:02:44 - ****:..It’s exciting, it's a little nerve racking but I mean I can make my nerves work for me.

NARRATION: “In fact, **** enjoys the spotlight. This evening, he will proudly represent the ******************* and the ************************************************, presenting and accepting any awards they should win. It’s a role that gives him a chance to speak his mind, something those who know him know that he loves to do.”

Hi, I'm *************
RGN30-1321 12:00:30
I'm 28 years old, a Cree guy from um Sturgeon Lake Reserve

RGN30-1324 15:10.40
I want to challenge people’s thought cause I was always told, treat your audience like idiots, treat your audience like they don' t know anything - I believe that the audiences have been taken for granted for far too long and it's time that we challenge their thought and it's time that we challenge their beliefs
RGN30-1324 15:10.08
and especially, especially on Aboriginal issues.

RGN30-1321 12:26.07
my lodge name is thunderbird that sings.
RGN30-1321 12:27.06
When I was given that name I was told it’s not what you think it is…to this day I am still am trying to figure out what does it mean,
RGN30-1321 12:29.11
what is says to me, thunderbird that sings, because of what is says, to me is that someone who speaks out, you know….

NARRATION: It’s a fitting name, as **** is a man who embraces every chance to speak out. From his work on film boards and committees, to his participation as part of the in-your-face comedy troupe, The Bionic Bannock Boys, he is constantly exploring the relationship between Indian and white in honest, direct and unconventional ways.

(clip from Bionic Bannock Boys footage)
(sound up from Yorkton where he references signing a treaty)

NARRATION: ****’s First Stories’s film, ****************, confronts racism with this same direct approach. In order to make the strongest impact, **** chose to convey the true story of dealing with his own racist experience in a manner that he hoped would shake up and offend both aboriginals and non-aboriginals.”
