I want a voice that feels tough and strong, but also kind. A mixture of firefighter, cowboy and roughneck (oil field worker). He talks in a slow, measured voice, with confidence that he speaks the absolute truth, and with confidence that the listener will be hanging on his every word. I want this voice to have the voice of experience, that sounds like someone who has fought thousands of fires and saves hundreds of lives. Someone who has choked down many lung-fulls of smoke and has still gotten the job done every time. He sounds far more like a firefighter than a studio announcer. I'm thinking a voice somewhat similar to Sam Elliot's. Maybe there's a VERY slight southern/western accent, but maybe there's no accent at all.

ThereÂ’s a special kind of person out there. HeÂ’s not like the rest of us.
While our first instinct is to flee a building consumed in flames, his is to run right into it.
While you and I can merely stand on the sidelines, hoping a neighborÂ’s home isnÂ’t destroyed, he grabs his boots, his bunker pants, his jacket, helmet, mask, air tanks and axe and does hand-to-hand combat with the danger.
He doesnÂ’t just fight fires. He straps on 70 pounds of safety gear, ascends a 40-foot ladder, climbs right into the danger, and saves all of those who otherwise would have perished. Every. Single. Day.
HeÂ’s noble. HeÂ’s daring. HeÂ’s dedicated. And sometimes, heÂ’s not a he.
So we take this moment to say ... thank you. To every firefighter. For EVERYTHING you do.
