Hi. Welcome to ***********************. During the next few minutes, I’ll share some highlights of Ron’s career that have provided the leadership skills that you’re looking for in a Learning Director. We’ll discuss some key experiences that have helped shape the Learning Leader he is today by looking at three distinct areas of Ron’s work experience. Now, let’s get started with the official beginning of his 20 year professional career.

After graduating High School, Ron served 4 years in the US Coast Guard as an Air Sea Rescue flight mechanic. Upon completion of his military service, Ron enrolled in college to pursue a new direction. Even in college, Ron displayed ambition and hard work. Although he worked full time while in school, he received his diploma in only 3 ½ years. Once college was completed, a new journey began…his role in church ministry was off and running.

Ron learned that his strengths in ministry were in motivating people for service…managing teams of volunteers… and training. He fine tuned his skills as a trainer while in this role. Ron began teaching seminars on Personal Finance, Marriage Enrichment,
Parenting, Public Speaking & Teaching, Leadership, and more. He quickly learned that true success in church and business comes as a result of behavioral changes. With this revelation, his understanding of effective training became a driving part of how he operated.

While in ministry, he chaired numerous boards as well as a local
ministerial association; through this committee he organized multiple area wide events involving over 13 multi-cultural churches. He also developed and organized a large scale
outdoor nativity program which was featured on the local news each year. This Nativity involved live performances, animals (including camels) professional grade costuming, and over 150 actors & stage hands. Ron successfully transitioned Bethlehem’s Story to a volunteer leadership model. He also oversaw a 1.5 million dollar building program from start to finish. This building project helped mature his leadership skills as he worked with many levels of professionals, laborers and volunteers. Raising money, securing loans, hiring contractors, chairing the building committee & noticing his first gray hairs were elements that helped him grow as a project manager.

Ron grew in his professional skills while serving several churches… including his final church of 1000 members in Norfolk Virginia. He became a noted speaker and sought after young pastor. As a result of his behavioral change method of training & development, his churches grew in membership and in systematic tithes & offerings. Ready for a change, Ron shifted from Church Ministry to the business sector and brought his management and training skills with him. Soon he found himself serving as a different kind of trainer yet using the same skill set developed while in church ministry.
He began a growing journey at Personal Tax Services.

Ron was initially hired as a Regional Training Manager. The company provided services, including training, for nearly 500 affiliate offices nationwide. Ron would soon discover his role would greatly change within 8 months after employment. The company was in need of leadership in its training program. Its affiliate offices
needed the kind of training that would produce bottom line results.

These regional offices provided tax preparation services during tax season. The affiliate office largely consisted of Insurance Agencies and Small Finance companies. Initially Ron was responsible for training store owners, managers and other employees in over 75
offices in 5 states. During his first training and tax season Ron demonstrated strong training and leadership skills. The company owner wanted Ron’s ideas as to how training could be used to grow the business through increased tax return preparation. Ideas were shared. Soon thereafter, Ron was promoted to the position of Training Director thus commissioned with the task of managing the training program and improving its processes.

Ron shifted the company from a large group lecture training model, to regional training seminars located in computer labs nationwide. Small groups of 12- 20 students attended training workshops in computer labs and received hands on tax software training. While there, the students also received marketing training for their tax services. Ron also developed an Online curriculum that could be accessed through the company website. If the business did not have high speed internet, training came through the CD version. This online certification program served as a reinforcement to live training and became primary training for affiliate offices located in remote areas. He also initiated a more
comprehensive training program for seasonal support staff. In addition to learning & development, Ron managed the team of trainers that were scheduled to conduct dozens of seminars nationwide. After working with the company nearly 5 years, tax return preparation increased over 50% and affiliate offices grew to nearly 1000. While serving at PTS, Ron also assumed the role of company Team Builder. In this role, he routinely organized team building events as well as worked to foster a team spirit oriented work place.

Ron’s time at Personal Tax Services, proved to be a huge stepping stone as he transitioned from church ministry into the business environment. Once again he served in a role where the “buck” often stopped. His managing skills grew as his passion for effective learning increased. Now…enters Mohawk Industries. With new challenges, come many successes.

Ron’s initial assignment was with Residential Customer Service. It was suggested when he was hired that if his experience and depth of knowledge met their business needs, his role would be broadened to other departments. One year later, Ron was realigned to oversee all training in 7 different business units.

Currently he manages training for: Residential, Commercial and International Customer Service…, After Sales…, Pricing… and Flooring Credit…. Recently Logistics has been added to the mix. Some early accomplishments in Residential Customer Service
consisted of: LMS Utilization…, initiated Power-Up training reinforcements…, created Training Soup newsletters… and Official Training Fliers.

Outside of Residential Customer service, he has implemented a Soft Skills training program for all groups. Ron has overseen the training for recent customer service transitions including: Moving Bigelow customer service to Greensboro…, Karastan to
Chatsworth…, Durkan to Dalton… and Commercial Samples to Chatsworth. These transitions have kept him busy as he strategically consulted with business unit leaders and oversaw the implementation of all areas of transitional training.

He has also provided hard skills consulting to these Customer Support business units. In early 2009 Ron identified all “training” related personnel in each dept. and conducted the first ever “Hard Skills Trainers Workshop.” This 2-day workshop opened the door for 13 trainers to learn best practices and discover various resources they have access to. This open door has helped develop consistency in processes taught….. as well as created a
team spirit for all trainers especially those who typically operate independently. Up until the recent transitions, he had 6 full time trainers under his care as well as 3 “part-time” trainers. He has maintained 3 full time trainers that report directly to him during this time.

One of Ron’s major accomplishments is that he and his immediate training team, have recently completed the development of a new workshop titled: Performance Building Workshop. This one day class addresses four key performance builders: Communication…, Teamwork…, Professionalism… and Initiative. This workshop can be facilitated across departmental lines. This class is designed to increase awareness of often overlooked workplace traits that prevent an individual - and company - from
developing their full potential.

Another big success has been the launch of Power-up Training Reinforcement modules. These modules are designed to keep the student engaged with the training content for several weeks after completion of the class. These module series consist of 2-7 short elearning modules that remind and challenge the student to continue to develop whatever skill set the class was intended for. This process is great in keeping the learning experience alive and growing. There are currently 4 workshops that have completed
Power-Up series, and two more are currently in production.

Ron has shown his ability to learn, adapt and demonstrate his leadership qualities while at Mohawk. Since employment began, Ron has successfully completed the certification process for multiple seminars and workshops. They include: Effective Interpersonal Skills…, Dynamic Communication- which is the DISC Behavioral Assessment profile…, 7-Habits of Highly Effective People…, Weber Time Management Workshop… and is currently preparing for certification in LeaderShift…. Ron has recently led out in The 21Indispensible Qualities of a Leader workshop to supervisors and leaders in training. Ron feels at home in the classroom whether he is in front of 3 or 300 students, entry level
employees or management. He has a trainer’s heart and a passion for learning. This shows as he drives important information home in ways his students understand.

Ron has spent his career preparing for the role of Learning Director for Mohawk Industries. His newly acquired knowledge of the flooring industry accompanied by his 20 years of experience as a leader, manager and trainer fully qualify him to lead Mohawk
to a higher level of effective training. Being an outsider with an internal vision Ron has a clear advantage in driving Mohawk Training to be a world class leader in learning and development.
