In the year 2000,the leaders of the world gathered at the United Nations and collectively determined to tackle some of the most pressing problems facing the developing nations of the world. The results are the Millennium Development Goals.
At the heart of each of the Millennium Development Goals is a person; A child who is hungry, a mother with a new born baby, a father struggling to provide for his family. And every person is part of a family. The first place we need to look to begin solving these problems is within the family.
When we look into the face of hunger, the face looking back is usually a child. Our hearts ache, but no more so than the hearts of that child's parents. Families have the most at stake when we talk of poverty and hunger and have the most to gain by its elimination.
A ravaging fire of disease is sweeping across continents and nations. No one is safe from its devastation. You can not build a wall large enough to stop its spread. But a wall can be built that is small enough. It is within the walls of a humble home that we can build the defenses necessary to turn back this deadly tide.
