The problem? Our OI function spotted inefficiencies in some of the services around our Non Voice Service Desk.
The impact? An excess of calls, leading to breaches of the contractual call logging thresholds with our vendor, possible increases in costs and potentially reducing responsiveness.
The solution? By collaborating with the vendor as one team, Ritesh Patel and his Infosys team were able to compress task activities and reduce process waste for handling non voice calls. This led to a far more efficient service and a greater capacity to handle future calls – not to mention 200,000 dollars saved through efficiencies.
And what’s more - the team showed respect to our vendor by bringing the volume of calls back within the contract threshold, rather than expecting them to perform regardless of them being overloaded.
There was a time when over eighty per cent of requests raised by Shared Services to provide access to KEON took more than four weeks to implement – with ten per cent never completing at all.
That is until Colin Williams and his Oil team, working with other functions and GOI, set out to do something about it
The goal? Eighty per cent of KEON access requests completed within one week without escalating to Shared Services.
They achieved their goal by working as one team, working across functions and boundaries to assess the problem. They reduced all key stages of the process. Lowering the average elapsed time for a request from twenty days to five – meaning equivalent process efficiency savings of 800,000 dollars.
The setting – our GTEL business

The challenge – unacceptable wait times when supplying and configuring new or replacement PCs in times of crisis, equalling, unhappy customers.
The solution? Stage one was understanding the problem and our customer as part of Go See and Assess. It became clear there was too much hand-off between our customer and support slowing up the process.
Stage two – promote closer working between our Gas application support and desktop teams. This got teams working closer together and creating complimentary processes.
The outcome? By getting a grip on some of these contributing factors the end to end process has been reduced by up to 10 days, which is helping to promote how we can do this across other domains too.
Collective Market Intelligence – Neil Arora
This is a story of untapped potential and a man who did something about it.
BP has a major presence in physical markets with access to valuable information at every stage of the supply chain that we’re not fully capitalising on.
Neil’s idea envisions an interactive platform to capture a larger portion of BPs internal and proprietary tradable information and intelligence. Allowing us to build a more complete view of hydrocarbon markets.
The possibilities for capturing and trading on BP proprietary intelligence are endless.
This idea is definitely worth a lot for IST!
Smart Trader Cockpit with Algo Rules – Imad Nabli
What is it? The Smart Trader Cockpit is a tool giving access to real time newsfeeds, analytics, positions and trade execution.
Meaning – traders get actionable alerts. They would then be able to trade electronically using algorithmic trading, knowing they’re using the best exchange execution path.
The benefits? Improved time to market on quoting and executing for IST. Plus, we’d increase hedging effectiveness cross-exchanges and give ourselves the edge in proprietary trading.
Integration and Optimisation of Physical Crude – Amit Prakash
Trading operations, vessel tracking, pipeline batching, cargo assurance, nomination systems. The optimisation of those activities in an integrated fashion can unlock substantial value for IST.
The idea? Being great on each one of the activities we perform is not enough. It’s key that we bring them together in a way that maximizes the opportunities for our company.
