So how does machine control fit into excavator applications? First of all, machine control is not new to the excavator market. Simple laser receivers have been attached to the stick of an excavator providing grade information for many years. However the contractor’s adoption of these early 2D laser based systems was very small. This is because of the very limited applications of these simple laser systems. But in the past few years, that has changed dramatically.
