PFC Mike Dawson
Born in 1919, Pfc. Michael Dawson grew up with his father in the Gainsborough Old Hall in Gainsborough, England. Dawson’s father constantly spoiled him by allowing him to do almost anything he wanted. Due to his father’s irresponsibility, Dawson got into fights at school, broke windows, snuck drinks from his father’s cabinet, and once even set a nearby barn on fire.
In the early 1930s, Dawson was sent to America to live with his mother in New Jersey; upon his arrival, he faced a harsh way of life about which he knew nothing. His mother was a seamstress put out of work soon after the Stock Market Crash and had been struggling to find a steady job ever since. Forced into such a drastic change in lifestyle, Mike found it hard to adjust to his new surroundings. As the months past, he was able to straighten up in school and even win a few awards, this lead to a scholarship that he eventually later turned down.

BAKER Yeah. I had to use it in Eindhoven…
(a beat)
The kid almost shot me. He doesn’t understand any of this.
BAKER extends his hand to let DAWSON inspect it.
DAWSON
Understand this.
(pointing to pistol)
That.
BAKER
You buy into that shit?
DAWSON
(getting frustrated)
You don’t purchase faith.
(a beat)
Those men died holding a pistol you refused to take because, as some pointed out you were afraid to. Forgive me for not believing its all random chance.
Baker stands up from the tree and looks out over Eindhoven
BAKER
(softly)
It was my father’s. That’s why I didn’t want it.
DAWSON
Who also died holding it.
BAKER
What are you trying to prove, Dawson?
DAWSON
That you’re hiding something. DAWSON Is that the gun?
BAKER Yeah. I had to use it in Eindhoven…
