Occupational Safety & Health Admin. (OSHA)

Industrial accidents and injuries were once far more common than present times. In the 1960’s the United States had an estimated 58 million person workforce. 2.2 million people were injured by electricity resulting in 14,000 deaths.

The Occupational Safety and Health Act was formed to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities. The act had been co-authored by Senator Harrison Williams of New Jersey and Representative William Steiger of Wisconsin. This legislation is also referred to as the Williams-Steiger Act

The legislation was signed into law December 29, 1970 by President Richard Nixon and took effect on April 28th 1971.

By 2007, the workforce had increased to 111 million workers. Injuries were down from 2.2 million in the 1960’s to 13,150 recorded between the years 2003 to 2007. Deaths from electricity were down from 14,000 to 5,500.

OSHA’s Purpose
OSHA’s purpose is to reduce death, injury, and illness across a wide number of professions and occupations.

Independent work safety research used by OSHA is performed by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (also known as NIOSH). This work is funded by Center for Disease Control (CDC).

OSHA’s mission is to establish “separate but dependent responsibilities and rights for employers and employees” to establish safe working conditions and define requirements to achieve it.

OSHA also provides requirements for reporting and record keeping of illnesses, injuries and deaths – establishing training programs – and developing mandatory standards and definitions of what to comply with. These are to be followed by all states.
Please note that you should only use the script or your recording of it for auditioning purposes. The script is property, unless otherwise specified, of the voice seeker and it is protected by international copyright laws.
