We will proceed to evaluate two interactive clinical vignettes of patients, illustrating the benefits of ********** CRŽ (isradipine) treatment for patients with hypertension with or without co-existing conditions such as type 2 diabetes. When compared to placebo, ********** CRŽ (isradipine) reduced systolic blood pressure by up to 20 millimeters of mercury at the 10-milligram dose and up to 12 millimeters of mercury for patients receiving a 5-milligram dose. ********** CRŽ (isradipine) was also shown to significantly reduce diastolic blood pressure with reductions of up to 16 millimeters of mercury for the 10-milligram dose and up to 9 millimeters of mercury for the 5-milligram dose with respect to placebo. ********** CR enhances vascular blood flow and improves systemic hemodynamics. ********** CR lowers BP by reducing total peripheral resistance.

In a nationwide, open-label, centrally monitored study in which 21,852 hypertensive patients received a standard 5-milligram or 10-milligram dose of isradipine, it was shown that isradipine is safe and effective regardless of age, race or sex even in patients with co-existing conditions such as diabetes and renal insufficiency. In a separate study, isradipine was also shown to reduce blood pressure in salt-sensitive and non-salt-sensitive patients, regardless of salt intake. Isradipine avoids potential negative effects on cardiac function with no significant effect on heart rate and on cardiac conduction, output, or contractility. No evidence of sympathetic response to vasodilation that stimulates increased heart rate and contractility was observed.

Clinical findings include systolic blood pressure of 160 millimeters of mercury and diastolic blood pressure of 100 millimeters of mercury. She has normal total and HDL cholesterol levels.
Treatment Goal Tab:
The treatment goal for this patient according to the JNC would be to achieve a systolic BP of less than 140 millimeters of mercury and a diastolic blood pressure of less than 90 millimeters of mercury. Clinical Findings Tab:
Clinical findings include systolic blood pressure of 168 millimeters of mercury and diastolic blood pressure of 102 millimeters of mercury, blood urea nitrogen of 17 milligrams per deciliter and creatinine was 1.2 milligrams per deciliter. His fasting blood glucose was measured at 105 milligrams per deciliter.
Treatment Goal Tab:
For patients with hypertension and diabetes like Paul B, the goal of therapy, according to the JNC 7 recommendations, is to lower systolic blood pressure to 130 millimeters of mercury or less and diastolic blood pressure to 80 millimeters of mercury or less since this lower goal is associated with additional reductions in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. ********** CRŽ (isradipine) significantly reduces blood pressure and has been studied in 4399 patients with diabetes and hypertension. ********** CRŽ (isradipine) has no adverse effects on glucose control, and serum lipids and also maintains afferent and efferent blood flow with no adverse effect on serum potassium levels.
