Script Details

Please read a portion from the script below for auditions.
How would the world be different if everyone were the same?
If we all walked and talked the same?
How about if we all looked alike?
And had all of the same ideas or solutions?
Would the world be comfortable and predictable?
Or calculated and boring?
Look around. You’ll probably notice a lot of both—some predictable, familiar faces and ideas – and some…not
Many “not” in fact.
That’s our real world. It’s diverse.
Diversity just means differences.
Lots of them.
Those differences invite opportunities for new ideas,
and experiences.
Differences can also bring…discomfort.
So we don’t always recognize all the value in things we consider unfamiliar, the advantages in what’s different.
How can we really value, appreciate – and benefit from -- a diverse environment?
What’s the value that comes with diversity?
Before we define Diversity, we need to know a little about cultural groups
A cultural group may be made up of people with similar backgrounds or lifestyles.
A cultural group is made up of people share something – that something might be a set of attitudes or experiences. That something might be similar physical appearance…but not necessarily.
Sharing something does NOT mean the people in a group share everything.
Being a student in a classroom may make someone part of a cultural group called teenagers.
Being at a certain music concert might make that teenager part of a cultural group called hip-hoppers.
Does that mean all teenagers are hip-hoppers? Are all hip-hoppers teenagers?

A cultural group may be made up of people with similar backgrounds or lifestyles.
It’s members may be of different races, ethnic origins, or religions,
different genders or orientations or backgrounds,
different beliefs, preferences, or behaviors.
Some cultural groups you may be familiar with include:

Young Adults
or even Emo or Hip-Hoppers, ---the list may be infinite and is ever-changing.
That’s right: cultural groups may be based on differences of national origin, religion, or even music tastes.
So cultural groups are all about people with a specific similarity.
What, then, is diversity?
