This is the success story of one earthquake victim out of thousands who lost their loved ones. [Name of Women], with her daughter, is a resident of Khan Geri Village, 10 Kilometer away from Balakot. Khan Geri Village is situated at a very difficult and dangerous distance. In this severe disaster all sectors of life were affected badly, but infrastructure of Housing, Education and Health was devastated totally which led the situation to the massive flood of poverty, orphans, widows, patients and no earning to support life.
************ was the one of the first very few rescue and relief organizations that reached the affected areas and started emergency relief projects. ************ provided emergency relief items of worth millions dollars in areas of health, tent villages, temporary schools, and field hospitals equipped of field operation theatre.
Even after the long exercise of emergency relief projects there was a lot more to do. ************’s visionary team surveyed and analyzed the problematic situation, and finally decided to start reconstruction and rehabilitation projects on permanent basis in the earthquake affected areas.
************ is managing projects like Health & physical Rehabilitation, reconstruction and Livelihood support. Vocational & Skills development, Orphans & widows support, Education, Water & sanitation and Economic empowerment programs and projects are playing vital roles in development phase.
************ has achieved many mile stones to improve the community’s infrastructure with the provision of health facilities. ************’s Health Projects consist of free medical & eye camps, free Mobile Health Units, Provision of medical equipments, life saving drugs and surgical instruments. Along with the establishment of new hospitals ******* is also facilitating people with health & Hygiene education services. ************ employs highly qualified teams of doctors, surgeons, Physiotherapists, prosthetics and nurses that are working in the field day and night. More than one thousand patients have recieved artificial limbs and hundreds of others are waiting. ************ made a change in their lives. Mobile Health clinics of Helping Hand are saving numerous human lives with curative and preventive services in inaccessible areas of country. Helping Hand’s 17 ambulances fleet is ready to cope with any emergency situation.
************ is busy in the development of the affected areas with reconstruction projects under the umbrella of “Adopt a Village Program”. Basic infrastructures of villages like, roads, schools, basic health units, Mosques, vocational centers, livelihood projects are being initiated. ************ has provided facilities to local communities to reconstruct the 1285 houses in village of Dhani Shadra, Lasdhar Hattian Bala, Chirhan, Khangari, Kohukot, Bandi Suchian and Pattan. Approximately 1800 houses and shelters are still in the pipe line.
To meet the need of construction material, ************ set up its own crushing and Block making project and Aara machines to facilitate the victims.
Following the development phase in the education Sector ************ funded two high schools of 80 rooms and 15 Montessori schools in the remote areas of NWFP. Books, stationary, food and teaching facilities are being provided free of cost. In remote areas of Pakistan students hardly reach basic education, but now ************ is facilitating them to achieve higher levels of education, where girls and boys are studying up to graduation level.
************, under its Orphan Support Program, has adopted more than three thousand children. The children are being provided food, uniform, books, Scholarships and proper education. ************ is trying to convert their miseries in to success stories.
Clean drinking Water is the biggest issue faced by the poor people of Pakistan. Women have to travel miles to fetch water in remote areas of Pakistan. ************ is building the infrastructure of water and sanitation and also providing Hand pumps in the far-flung areas of Sindh, NWFP, Punjab, Kashmir, and also in drought affected areas in African countries.
************’s microfinance scheme is for economic empowerment of the victims at village and gross root level. Through this project a moderate amount of money is being provided to the deserving and technical hand persons for the start of businesses and livelihood with no interest and return in easy installment conditions.
************ has established eight vocational and four technical training centers by the name of “Institute of Advanced Technologies” which offer computer courses, Mobile Phone repairing, electrical courses, Refrigeration & Air-conditioning, and sewing & knitting courses. The main aim of this project is to reform the affected income generation infrastructure, to eradicate poverty and to educate the youth.
During the massive flood of 2007 which devastated the major areas of Balochistan and NWFP, Helping Hand started the biggest operation to save humanity. Food, medicine and houses were the major issues of the time, but with the support of communities from all over the world ************ dared to deal with all the problems.
************ and its team is busy in humanity services day and night leaving their personal interests far behind.
