Script Details

***custom demo required***
Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands.

One of approximately 1000 islands in this South Pacific nation.

It was the site of one of the fiercest, bloodiest, and most important battles in the Pacific during the Second World War.

Known as the Battle of Guadalcanal, this Allied campaign against the Japanese raged on land and sea for nearly six months.

The Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, which took place from November 13 to November 15, 1942, was a strategic victory for the United States and its Allies – but it was also one of the most chaotic naval battles of the war, that resulted in the sinking of 13 US navy ships during this three-day combat.

The USS Atlanta, a light cruiser commissioned just weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, was one of these ships.

In May 2011, an international scuba diving expedition team arrives in the Solomon Islands to dive the wreck of the USS Atlanta.

Liam Allen, an Irish diver living in nearby Australia, is the expedition’s project leader.

To this day, when the remains of Japanese soldiers are found, the Japanese authorities have them cremated at a memorial on Guadalcanal and the ashes are returned to family members in Japan.

During the six month Guadalcanal campaign, the Americans and their Allies lost over 7000 men, while the Japanese lost over 30,000.
