INT: DANIEL’S KITCHEN
DANIEL stands at the entrance to his kitchen, staring at the room. There are no tools, no utensils, no devices of any kind. The sink is there, but there is no sponge. The cupboards are there, but there are no knives under it. Daniel continues to stand there, more confused than before.
But this time, it was true. Everything that could be considered a tool was gone. Vanished, into thin air.
Daniel looks pensive.
To the best of his memory, Daniel hadn’t put any of these tools in the garage. Surely, someone would run them over with the car. That would defeat the purpose of both the tools and the car.
A rumble in Daniel’s stomach spurs him into motion. He calmly goes over to the cupboard and finds a can of vegetable soup.
Still, Daniel was undeterred in his goals. He wanted soup for breakfast. It was his favorite way to start the day.
Reaching up into one of the higher cupboards, Daniel fetches a bowl. Positioning himself at the kitchen counter, Daniel places the bowl onto the counter, and after an uncertain pause, he places the unopened can of soup into the bowl. He looks at the display without emotion.
Of course, this posed a problem for Daniel. He had no can opener. He had no knife, to perhaps jimmy the can top off. In fact, he didn’t even have a spoon.
Daniel checks the silverware cupboard, confirming that it is completely empty. Going back to the bowl and the can, Daniel thinks for a minute, and then lifts the can. Taking it away from the bowl, he holds it a few inches above the counter, and then drops it. The can doesn’t open. Daniel looks disappointed.
Daniel was a clever man, but this predicament seemed to be out of his range of expertise.
Daniel knocks the top of the can against the edge of the counter.
He tried loosening the top...or what he figured was the top.
Daniel sticks the can into the sink drain, which fits the circumference of the can pretty well, and tries to twist.
He tried seeing if somehow the top might twist off. Even though it wasn’t a twisty top.
Daniel tries to bite at the metal covering of the can’s top.
He tried all sorts of things. It was no use. He was stuck eating...cereal.
Daniel is now sitting at his table, staring at his bowl of cereal. Again, he has no spoons. Sighing deeply, he sticks his face into the bowl and drink/eats the cereal. Lifting his face up again, he’s covered in milk and flakes.
This was what he had hoped to avoid. Time to wash his face again.
