We are currently casting for the role of KARLY JACOBS. This is a continuing role, contracted for five consecutive stories with an episode count of approx. 21 episodes total. We generally do between two to four stories a year. Production for this block will begin around October 2011 and is expected to take two or even three years.

Pay for this role is $25/episode with a minimum of $100/story and $500 over 5 story season. Stories that are shorter than 4 episodes will be paid the minimum $100 rate while stories that are longer than 4 episodes will be paid at $25/episode

The role will require the actor to play the character at various ages: 10 years old, 18, 30, 40, and 70. We are looking for someone who can play all ages.

Karly Jacobs

Karly's first appearance is as a ten year old girl born in early 21st century Britain. Her parents are Robert and Patricia Jacobs. She has no siblings. Her family life can be considered quite dysfunctional. She was not a wanted child and her parents have let her know this fact, though admittedly they have not thrown it in her face. In fact, her parents aren't actively mean to her. They are just thoroughly disinterested, her presence a distraction to their own lives.

Karly's parents are divorced, and there is hostility between them. Mostly is seems to be who will get stuck taking care of Karly. The courts have mandated 50/50 custody, and Karly shifts between the two parents every week. Usually, each parent will find a sitter to take care of her, take her along to work (when she isn't in school) where she is placed somewhere out of the way, or even left home alone.

Despite all this, Karly does love her parents, though she accepts that her parents do not love her. She is obedient as much as a ten year old girl can be, but being love-starved, she attaches very quickly to anyone who shows even a glimmer of interest in her.

When the Doctor arrives in her life, she gravitates toward him and is eager to share in whatever adventure he is involved in.

Unlike other companions the Doctor has had in the past, Karly does not actually travel with him, and the next time we see her is about eight years later.

Eighteen-year old Karly is a college student living in a dorm. The best memory of her childhood was of the Doctor, and she dreams of meeting him again. When she does meet him, she eagerly throws herself into his adventure, wholeheartedly trusting him, the only person who ever showed any interest in her.

The next time we see Karly, she is about thirty years old. Her previous adventure with the Doctor left her with terrible emotional scars, and the idolisation she had for him has turned to bitterness. Her life has been a wreck, wondering if the Time Lord will ever appear again and cause her such trauma. She has been unable to sustain any relationship. She does not hate the Doctor, but lothes what havoc his presence will bring.

Karly at forty years old finds her suffering from depression. She can not seem to escape the Doctor; his last visitation causing her to feel she shall never escape becoming caught up in whatever the Doctor's presence brings. When the Doctor does arrive, events cause Karly to believe that fate requires her to follow along.

The second-to-final time the Doctor encounters Karly, she is a 70 year old woman who has come to accept that some things are out of her control, and that events do not make us who we are, but we are rather defined by how we react to events. Karly is now at peace with her life. She has married and been widowed (though at what age she married is never said), and has two daughters, now grown
themselves. She is glad to see the Doctor again; she feels bad for the way she has treated him most of her life, realising now that the Doctor only had the best interest of her and Earth at heart.

(PATRICIA is getting ready to leave for the opening.)

PATRICIA: (Calling) Karly? Karly!

KARLY: Yes mum.

PATRICIA: I'm getting ready to leave. Where's my purse? (Sees it) Oh, there it is. (To Karly) Now listen, I couldn't get Mrs. Libbey to baby-sit for you tonight, so you're on your own. I don't want any funny business. Do your homework and be in bed by nine. I left you something to microwave in the freezer.

KARLY: What time are you going to be home?

PATRICIA: Since I don't have to worry about a baby-sitter, I may stay until the morning. But I'll be back before your father comes to pick you up.

KARLY: ll right.

PATRICIA: Oh, and water the garden before you go to bed. I haven't had time.

KARLY: (Cowers) I don't like to go out there.

PATRICIA: Just water the plants. I'm using them as part of my new exhibit.

KARLY: Let 'em die.

PATRICIA: Just get out there and do what your told. (Starts to leave) I won't know if I'm staying in the city until past your bedtime, so I won't call. I should be back before you're awake, but if not, make yourself a sandwich for breakfast.

(PATRICIA opens the front door.)

PATRICIA: I'll see you later.

(Door closes.)

KARLY: (Lonely) Bye, mum. (Sighs)

(KARLY opens the back sliding door and walks into the garden with trepidation.)

VOICE 1: She's here.

VOICE 2: Shh. The little girl can hear us.

KARLY: Stop it!

(KARLY turns on the garden sprinklers.)

KARLY: Here!

VOICE 1: (Soaking it in) Water! About time! So thirsty!

VOICE 2: Next time don't take so long, Karly!

KARLY: Leave me alone! Leave me alone!

(MR. PINGOT exits scene as well, trees and bushes moving in the background. KARLY and THE DOCTOR are left alone on the outer CASTLE AMBERLEY GROUNDS.)

THE DOCTOR: Something about this entire situation keeps bothering me. A connection I seem to keep missing. Broken technology and nightmares. Everyone's being trapped here with no manner of escape. What does this remind me of?

KARLY: Alright Doctor, you've convinced me. Obviously something supernatural is going on. (Grumbles) When you figure out it out, could you get back to me? I came here for a break, not a headache that just- (Winces)

(KARLY nearly falls to the ground. THE DOCTOR catches her.)

THE DOCTOR: (Concerned) Karly, are you okay?

KARLY: This headache is getting even worse. It started when I met you in the castle, but instead of easing up it's just getting worse.

THE DOCTOR: Truth be told, when I arrived I began hearing an odd buzzing sound. That can't be a coincidence.

KARLY: (Confused) Buzzing?

THE DOCTOR: It may be outside of your hearing range. Or a telepathic call. But I have definitely heard a buzzing noise that has increased in strength since my arrival.

KARLY: Must be something that only highly evolved spacemen like you can hear. But honestly I have no clue what you're talking about. What I DO know is that if I don't lie down and relax soon, this holiday will become a complete writeoff, and I don't get paid enough for that to happen.

THE DOCTOR: I do apologize for the interference in your personal life, Karly, but you can't blame me for this. As it stands, I'm more concerned about the safety of everyone here, including yourself.

KARLY: Well, if you don't mind, I think I'm going to go and try to enjoy a bit of my holiday. Let me know if you find out what's going on.

(Inside the crypt, the DOCTOR and KARLY are trying to hide from the monster that is hunting them)

KARLY: Why is it, Doctor, that whenever you're around, I always end up being chased by something nasty.

DOCTOR: We are known by the company we keep.

KARLY: I'm not sure if that's a reflection on you or on me.

(Monster has found them)

(DOCTOR and KARLY run)

KARLY: I'm not as young as I used to be.

DOCTOR: Neither of us are.

KARLY: But it hasn't lost its excitement!

DOCTOR: Now there's the Karly I used to know!

(A second monster appears)

KARLY: (Screms) Doctor!
