Cultural Council Video
ZDLTK91026843679X
This is a short DVD that will be handed out to private developers looking to build in a waterfront city. This video, produced by the city's cultural (or art) council, encourages them to consider incorporating art into their development. While the voice is speaking, the video will be showing many different examples of buildings, bridges, plazas, lighting features, etc., that have incorporated art. Our hope is to inspire developers to think about art even though it may be expensive for them to do so. We also want them to utilize the cultural council as a resource to do that.

Creating Art in Kirkland

It has been said that the architecture and art of a city, is its soul. Think of Rome, Paris, Athens, Florence, there are many other great examples. It is a pleasure to be in a great city! People choose to frequent places that have restaurants, museums, parks, and businesses in cities with great art and great vistas, and they have for centuries.

The Kirkland Cultural Council sees Kirkland Washington, in just this way….We call it the “Kirkland Factor.” By this we mean people love to live here, work here, visit here and do business in Kirkland …Because of its lake views, its parks, its art galleries, the ambience is made for just strolling or people watching. There is easy access to all amenities; and the Public Art is visible….Everywhere!

We believe that it is possible to maintain this “Kirkland Factor” as development is added to the city.

Let’s look at a few examples of what we mean. . . .

Let’s look at a few examples of what is possible. . .

Public Art is more than merely urban decoration.

Public art can play an integral part in civic revitalization

Public Art can make us more aware of our surroundings

Public Art can serve as a catalyst for public activity and
Civic pride

Public Art can open our eyes to new perceptions

Public Art can help us understand who we are and what is
special about our community

Public Art contributes to the unique character and history of a community

Public art is most effective when integrated into larger civic efforts; when incorporated into the initial planning stages of a project

Involving an artist in the design of a park, a fountain, street lighting, signage or landscaping can add Magic to a project.

We would like to invite Private Developers to consult with the
Kirkland Cultural Council to see if we can help bring this magic to your projects.

Whether you are interested in adding a small bit of art, or want to do something spectacular, we can help you.

We provide a free service, linking developers to artists. You choose what you want to do, and we help you make that dream a reality at the lowest possible cost to you.

From small to large, these are examples of what can happen when a developer and an artist work together:

All serving as public art . . . beautifully, functionally, and economically.

We invite you to learn more by contacting the Cultural Council. You can also visit 4Culture’s website to see additional examples of local artists’ work, divided into easily navigated categories of the material you want to work with and the project you want to make.

Learn how you can turn simple things like stairways, doors, and lighting into wonderful works of art. We think you will be inspired!
