D’Antuono recently completed a trilogy of portraits illuminating the government’s distribution of shared sacrifice upon millions of Americans bearing no responsibility for the economic collapse of 2008.
The first in the series, ‘Candy From Babies’ focuses on the innocent children burdened with our debt as they have their opportunities for a good education striped from them.
The next painting ‘Social Insecurity’ sheds light on seniors who are being treated as if they are not deserving of the entitlements they have paid into all of their working lives.
In the last of his portrait series, D’Antuono aims his brush at the one small yet powerful group who are not being asked to sacrifice, even though they are the very ones responsible for the economic collapse.
Instead, as shown in D’Antuono’s painting ‘American Pie’, they have been richly rewarded for their bad behavior. The piece lampoons the theory that the trillions given to Wall Street in the form of bailouts would somehow miraculously trickle down raining prosperity on all.
No branch of government is impregnable from D’Antuono’s artistic assault. His ‘Court Blanche’ derides the 2010 decision by the Supreme Court declaring that corporations are people. The ruling gave corporate heads free-reign to spend unlimited amounts of money to fund campaigns, effectively drowns out the voice of the common man who can’t afford that kind of free speech.
‘Corpocracy’ depicts the corrosive mutation of our democracy into a corporate state, further increasing the disparity in wealth and opportunity.
‘Small Government’ points out the corporate ecstasy of a government small enough to fit in their pocket.
The tail is wagging the dog, and no smart dog will bite the hand that feeds him.
Take the monopoly of power away from the 1% with 100% publicly financed campaigns and our government will work equally for all.
Democracy shouldn’t be for just the few.
Corpocracy isn’t inevitable.
