Script Details

Script for auditions below, read for Interviewer #2

Interviewee, SABRINA, a 20-year-old African/Caucasian
American college student sits across a conference table

Initially, we’re looking at the back of Sabrina’s head,
giving us her point of view of the three conservative-looking interviewers. They each wear a red sports coat, white pressed shirt, and red/white/blue tie. A copy of Sabrina’s resume sits on the table before each of them. Music fades completely out.
So Sabrina, tell us why you want an archivist internship at this Presidential Library?

Our first frontal view of Sabrina reveals that she, too, is
wearing a red jacket, a white pressed shirt, but instead of a tie, she’s sporting a red, white, & blue silk scarf wound too tightly around her neck. Sabrina, always the teacher’s pet and somewhat full of herself, sports a slight African-American accent as she begins her answer with perfect eye contact.

Yes, well, I am currently...

By the time Sabrina gets to the word, "currently," her eyes have shifted up to a STATELY NIXON PAINTING on the wall to her right as she continues her answer.

... finishing my Bachelors degree. I am a 3-year graduate. And, I am looking for employment in the Orange County Museum, slash, Library world...

At about this time, the interviewers are distracted by her lack of eye contact. Slightly confused, the 3 of them look up at the Nixon Painting too, then back at her. The confusion on eye placement continues...

...and the reason I choose to work here is because number one, I am a native Yorba Lindan just like the President. Also, I am a lover of history and have attended this library multiple times, and have left every time with an appreciation for the President and
the man that he was. Additionally, Presidents are my specialty and what not, so this place is perfect for me. And, hopefully, I’m perfect for it.(winning smile)

Relieved when she finally focuses on them, the interviewers smile back. Somewhat intrigued, Interviewer #2 leans forward.

So are you saying you discovered your special interest in Presidents by attending our Library?

Sabrina folds her arms.

Let me think. As a youngster, I discovered my mother’s royalty and political figure paper doll collection. It was only a matter of time before I became quite the "collector bug!" (throws up herarms) And the rest is history! (she giggles at her pun) Get it?

The interviewers stir, slightly uncomfortable. Interviewers
#1 and #3 cross their arms. Interviewer #2 loudly clears his throat, begins to speak.

With the roll of her eyes,
Sabrina, still self-absorbed, cuts him off.

For historians such as myself, paper dolls and their costumes provide a very broad look at cultures around the world. My collection is extensive and thorough and my preservation techniques state-of-the-art. I recently acquired Prince William and Kate commemorating their marriage...

We cut to an image similar to the opening where we see the back of Sabrina’s head, giving us her point of view of the three interviewers. Interviewer #2 joins the other two in crossing his arms. They give up looking up at the Nixon painting each time she does. Rather, now they are looking at each other... as Sabrina continues on and on...

... My work experience includes assisting archivists with assessment, cataloging, processing of archival collections, and what not. I processed four collections according to the "More Product Less process" standards and developed a finding aid for each...
