It’s a legitimate question. People die all the time just commuting to and fro. It could easily happen to you.
According to the bible, God’s requirement for entrance into heaven is absolute perfection. The book of James, chapter 2 says “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” Take the 10 commandments. Number nine - “Thou shalt not lie.” Have you ever told a lie? If so, then you are guilty and fallen short of the requirements to enter into heaven .
Have you ever taken the Lord’s name in vain? Then you are guilty.
Nobody can be good enough to make it into heaven on their own which is why the 14th Psalm concludes that “there is no one righteous, no not one.”
Even if you gave all you had to charity and lived a good and moral life, you could never be good enough.
So what is the solution that will save us from this terrible fate? Perhaps we could offer God a lifetime of sacrificial
Lambs and goats on an altar like the ancient Jewish people did week after week, but we could not offer enough to sufficiently atone for our sins. It would require a sinless, perfect and pure blood sacrifice. The bible says “without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins”.
2000 years ago God “put on skin” in the form of Jesus Christ.
Colossians chapter 1 calls Jesus “ the image of the invisible God”. Hebrews chapter 1 describes Jesus as “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.”
Jesus himself said: “He who has seen me has seen the father.”
When Christ offered himself and died on the cross, it was God that was shedding his blood as the ultimate sacrifice for you and me. The bible describes Jesus as the sacrificial Lamb of God which “taketh away the sins of the world”.
Talk to God in prayer right now asking him to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins. Accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross as full payment for all your sins. Repent of them and surrender you life to God. (Rom 12:1)
Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord thy God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
