Project Main Details
Chivas 18 is a sensory experience.
Every Taste a New Experience – with 85 flavours in every drop, each sip is a new discovery
The Experience should be the lasting souvenir
Curiosity – Viscerally beautiful. First sensorial engagement
Anticipation – Full of stories
Experience – Multi-sensorial
All aspects of the programme will follow the same underlying story arc, designed to reward curiosity, stimulate both the senses and the mind, and offer new ways of thinking.
We begin by initiating curiosity, then build on this intrigue to create anticipation, culminating in a memorable, sensory experience.
A journey of discovery through the senses, meeting and exploring different flavour groups along the way; ultimately reaching an encounter with the full 85 flavours of Chivas 18. Structurally, this also follows the programme’s three levels of engagement.
Introduction – CURIOSITY
The introduction sets the tone by issuing an unusual and surprising challenge based on the concept of the 85 flavours.
History and Production – ANTICIPATION
A 'sensory story' re-interpretation of the standard content; heavily styled, with dramatic visuals and audio to stimulate the audience’s senses and build anticipation for the extraordinary liquid they are soon to experience for themselves.
Sensory Tastings – EXPERIENCE
Stories within the story: each round of tasting will incorporate entertaining and educational stories relating to the particular sense and flavour being highlighted.

No one is absolutely certain when whisky was first distilled. The earliest reference is from 1494, which state that friar John Cor took “eight bols of barley to make Aqua Vitae”. “Aqua Vitae” means the “Water of Life”, which when translated into Gaelic is “Uisge Beatha”, from which we get the word “Whisky”.
For such a varied and celebrated spirit it’s remarkable that whisky is made with just three natural ingredients: barley, water and yeast.
To cut a long story short, barley is ground into a course flour called “grist” and mixed with spring water. The result is a rich sugary liquid called “wort”.
Yeast is then added to start the fermentation process. The resulting beer-like liquid is then distilled into a clear spirit at 68% alc/vol.
This clear spirit, which has flavour characteristics unique to each distillery, is then left to mature in oak casks previously used to age sherry.
