The Turtle-Voice

We are looking for a character voice to act as “The Turtle” in our audio skit “The Slow Poke And The Hare”. Our company publishes a series of educational audio montage/adventures. The six 3-6 minutes skits are designed to kick-start discussion in classrooms, small groups and puppet shows. Each one tackles character building from a different perspective. We have already produced three volumes and need a male voice for this skit on the fourth volume.

GENERAL IDEA/PRODUCT

The Character “ The Turtle” needs to be . . . well a turtle. We want the voice to be deep, slow and compassionate. We join Samantha Sunshine, a sport reporter, who has a special broadcast from the Track field day at Lafontaine School. We find out that an historical event has just taken place…Indeed for years the hare has been dominating the 400 meter race…having only lost once before, a well documented event. Let’s find out what happened! You’ll learn what effect not doing any physical activity has on the hare’s racing abilities!

The method of payment will be discussed once the candidate has been chosen.
Usually Voice-talent artist have provided us with two or three takes of each lines. Once completed, voice-talent artist will sign waiver giving publisher ownership of the completed work. If you do not want to sign waiver, do not apply for this bid. Delivery method can be FTP. We would like the recording in full Wave (Not MP3)-usually 16 bit 44.1 KHz. We do the post-production work.

The product will be release on a CD for sales to mainly educators/school units. In the coming year, the skit will be available through Web Download as well.

Also, there is no time constraint on your voice-talent work. These skits are not generally limited by any time. Enjoy the free-flow and unleash your talent. Some artist do provide us with a supplementary version where you can Ad-lib, and this is welcome. However, again you are signing the waiver releasing any rights to this part of the production.

We have provided enough information for the artist(s) to make an adequate and informative proposal. Sampler sketches are welcome. We want to thank all of the artists in advance for their time and efforts.

The Slow Poke and the Hare

Theme: Physical fitness, Public Health, Wellness, exercise, lifestyle, way of life, racing

Situation: We join Samantha Sunshine, a sport reporter, who has a special broadcast from the Track field day at Lafontaine School. We find out that an historical event has just taken place…Indeed for years the hare has been dominating the 400 meter race…having only lost once before, a well documented event. Let’s find out what happened! You’ll learn what effect not doing any physical activity has on the hare’s racing abilities!

TV News Anchor: We’re sorry to interrupt the scheduled TV programming for a Special Broadcast…let’s join Samantha Sunshine at Lafontaine school. Samantha are you there?

Samantha: Yes I can hear you Bob, thank you. Good afternoon ladies and gentleman

TV News Anchor: Samantha, We all know about the hare and his record winning streak against the turtle. In fact, the hare has only lost once before and we all know that story.

Samantha:. Yes Bob, but today an historical event has just taken place here at the track and field day . . . well . . . to best described what happened let me back up a few minutes to just before the 400 meter race, when I interviewed Mr. Hare.

Mr. Hare: Ah, Ah, Ah. Look at that slow poke over there, still trying to beat me. What a waste of time, that turtle doesn’t stand a chance.

Samantha: Yes, but he did beat you once years ago, and beside give the turtle credit for trying.

Mr. Hare: Ya, he’s trying all right, but I’m not going to let it happen again! He has not beaten me since . . . well . . . you know that famous race when I got a little distracted.

Samantha: Do you feel ready for this race Mr. Hare? How has your training been?

Mr. Hare: Training, What training Mrs. Sunshine? I’m “ The Hare” I rely on my outstanding, astonishing, incredible superior physical abilities Miss Sunshine!. I don’t need no training.

Samantha: Well Good Luck with your race Mr. Hare.

Mr. Hare: Thank You Miss Sunshine . . . but I won’t need any luck; the awesome hare will once again defeat the Slow Poke. I’ll hold my trophy up at the finish line Miss Sunshine. You can have a picture taken of me you in muscle shirt standing beside you. It’s your lucky day Miss Sunshine!

Samantha: I…Well see about that! Talk about confidence; let’s now join Mr. Slow Poke. Sorry I mean Mr. Turtle and get his point a view.

Mr. Turtle: Good day Miss Sunshine!

Samantha: And a Good Day to you to Mr. Turtle. So how do you feel about this year’s event?

Mr. Turtle: Great. I got my self a new coach and have been following a new rigid training schedule, I now eat better and spend less time playing video games and watching television. I keep more active.

Samantha: My goodness Mr. Turtle; you have slimmed down quite a bit and you do look fit as a fiddle. Do you think that you can actually beat Mr. Hare?

Mr. Turtle: Mrs. Sunshine, Mr. Hare has more natural abilities, that is for sure. I do my best to participate, keep physically fit and enjoy getting out there and racing.

Samantha: Thank you for sharing these insightful remarks Mr. Turtle, Good Luck with the Race.

Mr. Turtle: Thank You.

Starting gun-race-on-crowd

Samantha: And there they go. As usual the Hare is leaping way ahead, the race is following it’s normal course, the hare leaps ahead! All is going according to script . . .

Sound of brakes . . .

Samantha: Well would you look at that! The hare has stopped half way through the race! No, he might not be sleeping or distracted but he is looks tired. Let me have a closer look.

Mr. Hare: (heavily out of breath) Miss Sunshine, you again. I thought you already interviewed me (coughing)…your audience would like more interviews with the Hare wouldn’t they? (Out of breath).

Samantha: Mr. Hare, look at you. You’re sweating and are completely out of breath. I am a little worried for you that Mr. turtle might . . .

Mr. Hare: (still out of breath).Worried, Miss Sunshine that’s a joke. I always stop midway through the race . . . makes it more interesting, dramatic at the end. (cocky)I wait till Mr. Slow Poke is on the last stretch and then I sprint and win the race in a suspenseful show of speed and skill. (coughing).

Samantha: As long as you don’t fall asleep in the meantime.

Mr. Hare: Ya I’m not as cocky as I was when I lost the race years ago. I keep watch on the race now, I do not stop for a sleep anymore . . . just for a rest!

Samantha: But look at Mr. Slow Poke, I mean Mr. Turtle over there, looks like he’s slimmed down. He‘s running at a much faster pace then any other years.

Mr. Hare: Don’t worry Miss Sunshine, I am the hare! You’ll see once more what my feet are made of! I‘ll run the last stretch backward, on one leg with my eyes closed and I’ll still beat the turtle. That should impress the crowd.

Samantha: It Look’s to me that if you want to impress anyone . . . you should get going Mr. Hare. The Slow Poke is coming up to the finish line faster then ever.

Mr. Hare: Oops, got to go!

TV News Anchor: And then what happened? Please tell our audience Miss Sunshine . . . what happened?

Samantha: Well as you probably guessed, Mr. Hare started to sprint towards the finish line but something he didn’t expect took place.

TV News Anchor: (with vivid interest). What was it? Did he run the last stretch backward, on one leg with his eyes close and still beat the turtle?

Samantha: No, Bob. As he approached the finish line, the hare ran out of breath spell on the final stretch. Wit h his eyes opened, on two legs and moving front the hare collapsed!

Mr. Hare: (Heavy labored breathing)

TV News Anchor: Who won the race Miss Sunshine? Who won the race?

Samantha: Mr. Slow Poke…I mean Mr. Turtle did by at least two crickets’ length ahead of the hare.

TV News Anchor: Wow, this is an historical moment. What did Mr. Turtle have to say?

Samantha: Here are the Turtle’s comments I recorded following the race.

Mr. Turtle: Wow. That was my best run ever…all that training paid off. I feel great!

Samantha: You really beat him this time Mr. Slow Poke…Sorry I mean Mr. Turtle.

Mr. Turtle: Yes I won the race Miss Sunshine . . .but the truth of it is that by not doing physical activities all year, Mr. Hare defeated himself. Whether he wins any races or not not doing little physical activities is really bad for him. It’s going to beat him every time. I just hope he starts looking at things in the long run.
Samantha: What long run is that Mr. Turtle, a Marathon?

Mr. Turtle: No, I meant his life Miss Sunshine. Like every one of us . . . he’s got to make the choice of doing physical activity or not. It might feel good right now just to spend half his days playing video games and watching televison, but it has affected his health…as you have just witnessed.

Samantha: Thank you for your insight. Any final comments Mr. Turtle?

Mr. Turtle: Like what?

Samantha: Well, you I could say that it felt good to have beaten that cocky, arrogant, high and mighty, insolent piece of Jack Rabbit?

Mr. Turtle: No. That wouldn’t be very humble Miss Sunshine. I think I’d rather say that physical fitness, even when you don’t win races, makes me and you a winner every day Miss Sunshine.

Samantha: Thank You Mr. Turtle. Back to you. Mr. Hare are you able to make a final comment?

Mr. Hare: (try’s to talk but with difficulty) Well . . . I . . . didn’t know…doing nothing….video games… (Coughs)….would be that bad for me...(Coughs), sorry Miss Sunshine.

Samantha: Well Bob, there you have, it for the second time in history, the turtle beat the hare. This time, thanks to physical fitness.
