Script Details

***Looking for an African American VO.

***Tone is straight read, mild story telling pro labor efforts.
Voice Over: In the 2009 New York City Mayor's race, pundits and polls all predicted a landslide victory for Mayor Michael Bloomberg. With a budget over 100 million dollars, it wasn't hard to see why few people were willing to take on the mayor.

(Evening news clip)

Voice Over: But the members of the Communication Workers of America Union Local 1180 believed someone needed to stand up for working New Yorkers and against the Billionaire mayor. Because we understood working families better then the mayor, we believed our union could make a difference.

(Arthur clip)

Voice Over: In order to make up for his huge campaign expenditures and his big lead in the polls, ******** needed to be smarter, more creative, and mobilize the full force of it's membership. So we launched a campaign which incorporated a website, a blog, a facebook page, direct mail, radio ads, TV commercials, newspapers ads – even attempting to interview the mayor during his campaign stops.

Voice Over: The campaign got television coverage and media attention that they could not afford to buy.

(montage of news coverage)

Even the Republicans had to like the Star Wars ad

(NY1 Clip)

Voice Over: Part of why our campaign was so effective was that we involved our members and took our case straight to the voters.

(Gwen clip, protest clip, guerrilla clip)

Voice OVer: On election night, things didn't quite go as expected for "Mayor Mike."
