Script Details

tone should be somewhat subtly sardonic and humorous without being too goofy; Latin/Mexican inflection will be considered but is not essential

Today, southern Colorado is part of the United States of America. But it hasn’t always been. If you could stand here over centuries’ worth of time, you might even find yourself saying, “Hey, I didn’t cross the border, the border crossed me!”

Long ago, southern Colorado was part of the Apache Homelands.

Narrator: You are an Apache villager. Your band has lived here for generations. Your enemies are the Comanches, the Pawnees, and the French.

• The bad news is: Armed enemies surround you

• The good news is: The Spanish want to be your friends

• The bad news is: They demand that you answer to them and change your beliefs.

How do you respond?

A: No, thanks. Our Apache traditions serve us well.

B: Sure! Can we have the chocolate first?

The Spanish and Apaches join forces, but the Spanish are not as strong as they claim.

Surrounded by enemies, Apache villagers have a tough time holding on to their homes. Friendship with the Spanish provides little help and, within thirty years, the Apaches leave Colorado.
