The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration (or O-SHA) publishes specific rules and regulations annually that help to ensure the health and safety of employees while in the workplace. Employees in the Healthcare Industry are responsible for following all of OSHA’s General Industry Rules, which are summarized in Part 1910.
This training course focuses on one of the most important sections of OSHA’s General Industry Regulations for Healthcare workers – the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
OSHA published this Standard in 1991 in response to the significant health risk associated with occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. At that time, nearly 6 million workers in healthcare and related occupations were at risk of exposure to bloodborne diseases. Since its release, the Standard has been very successful and exposure rates have declined dramatically.
You have been assigned this training course because you are at risk and may come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials while performing your job duties.
