Indian Camp Scene
Setting: Owl Woman and Little Mare tend to a fire outside their lodge.

Owl Woman (to little Mare): My son George is growing so fast…Now his father wants to send him to a white man's school in the East. I am afraid he will lose his Cheyenne ways. (looks up, a little startled, to see Ewing)

Owl Woman: We don't see many soldiers at the Indian camp. What brings you here?

Lt. Ewing: I am not only a soldier, madam, but a draftsman as well. You must be Owl Woman. I met your son at the trading post. I've come to draw your portrait, if you'll allow me. I would like to offer you a gift in exchange for your time.

Owl Woman: Ah yes, I‘ve heard about the visiting American and his book of drawings. Do you have any vermillion?

If yes…
Proceed to choose item from bag activity

If no…
Lt. Ewing: (shuffling in bag) Oh, no. I don’t have vermillion. Would you accept a mirror?’

Owl woman: ‘Yes.’

• That’s not it
• Unh-unh
• Try something else
• That’s not what I’m looking for
• I don’t think so
• No thanks
