Project Main Details
Drumma Boy is the King of Kicks and his music defines the sound of the South. He’s produced some of the biggest hits in the music industry.
Drumma Boy Has sold over 25 Million records worldwide and received 2 Grammy Nominations for his work on T.I.’s “Paper Trail” Album and Young Jeezy’s “Put On” featuring Kanye West.
But before Drumma Boy was able to produce all those hit records with the most popular names in hip hop, he would first have to win over his biggest critic, the 1st chair of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra…also known as His Dad.
Drumma Boy has earned the respect of the industry because of his non-stop grind, consistent work, and humble attitude.
For the first time, we hear how the producer from the South overcame the stigma of a small city to persevere to the top of the charts.
You Know The Music, You Know the Hits, You know the Artist. Now its time to Meet The Producer…Drumma Boy!
Christopher Gholson was born in the low income area of Memphis, Tennessee
His mother Billie Gholson was an accountant who worked as a part-time opera singer
and his father, James Gholson was a professional clarinetist in the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
A young Christopher Gholson actually had a promising career in basketball.
One day while working at a local shoe store Christopher's talent for making bass heavy drum tracks led to a dramatic name change.
With his new Hip Hop Moniker, Drumma Boy dives head first into the Music game and develops his love for Hip Hop.
With Hip Hop music now taking precedence over Drumma Boy’s life, he still had to overcome a major struggle which came to him in the form of his father who believed that education, not music should be his first priority!
Drumma Boy’s father, upset by his choice to pursue music over his education, gives Drumma a very stern ultimatum.
Drumma Boy’s music career meanwhile starts to take off to levels that some can only dream about. His collaboration with Young Jeezy and Kanye West garners him his first grammy nomination with the smash hit “Put On”.
Another classic Hip Hop record comes through a timely collaboration with a then up and coming artist by the name of 2 Chainz. The song was entitled “Spend It (I’m Riding Round and Getting It)”
Drumma then architects an unlikely collaboration on the Waka Flocka Flame hit song “No Hands”.
Drumma Boy’s consistent work ethic and humble attitude is echoed by almost every artist that he has produced for and they can all attest to his incredible producing ability.
Drumma Boy has had to endure a lot to stay on top. The life of an A-List Hip Hop Producer is extremely difficult and takes many survival skills.
From Memhis, TN to Atlanta, GA, to now taking on the challenge of Los Angeles, Ca. Drumma Boy has an accomplished past and an even brighter future.
Christopher Gholson aka Drumma Boy can truly say he did it his way. Drumma Boy has worked, endured, and paid dues to get where he is today. Its by no accident that he has been able to enjoy the fruits of his labor and he continues to grind like he’s still looking for his first hit record.
