Imagine a summer trip like no other! Spend a week on an island in the largest lake in the Bavaria area of Germany at the foot of the majestic Alpine mountains. You will be able to attend daily mass in a convent founded in 744, predating Charlemagne (Shar-La-Mane) himself! Walk in wonder through one of King Ludwig’s most majestic castles. Enjoy a day’s excursion to Salzburg (Salts-burg) with visits to Mozart’s birthplace, the Cathedral and the Prince Archbishop’s fortress looming over the town. Relish a concert with the vibrant, uplifting music of Haydn and Mozart.
The intellectual core of the program will be an in-depth study of Pope Benedict’s Regensburg (Reagan's Burg) Address of 2006 which incited the ire of many in the Muslim world. Yet the lecture at the University of Regensburg dealt with what the Pope saw as perhaps the greatest threat to the Faith in our day – the attempt to “de-hellenize” (Dee-Hell-in-ize) Christianity, that is, remove the essential role of reason.
Daily mass will be celebrated in the convent church, and lectures and discussions on the Regensburg Address will take place in the mornings.
The International Institute for Culture (IIC) is a non-profit educational and research center which seeks to promote international understanding through cultural means. Started in 1989 in response to the Holy Father’s call for the re-evangelization of culture, the IIC is engaged in international conferences, language and cultural programs, lectures series, educational seminars, art exhibits and musical performances which reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Catholic Church and which may serve to bring people to the Person of Jesus Christ.
