Batteaux Retirement
ZDLTK15207956658X
This is for a small retirement party for an outgoing coach that was well loved and respected. This will only be used for a one time event and will never be broadcast. I need a quote from you first and then I will get with you about whether or not we are going to do this together.

The name is pronounced bat-tow and we want to emphasize the funny parts of the script and be serious during the more focused parts of the script. You can have fun with this though.

SCRIPT:

Combining his love of sports with his desire to positively impact children, Robert Batteaux¡¦s future career in education was fostered in high school where he excelled in athletics and was mentored by teachers who encouraged him to be his best. After graduating from Fifth Ward¡¦s Phillis Wheatley High School in 1963, Robert started his secondary academic studies on a basketball scholarship at Prairie View A&M University. After a year of soul-searching on the bench [sound clip of cricket¡¦s chirping and a wide or close shot of Batteaux (1st row, 2nd from right)]
he decided to leave the hard court for the tennis court, where he and his teammates were SWAC Champions in 1965, ¡¥66 and ¡¥67 *(Scott, Batteaux is last one standing up)
After meeting all of the requirements, Robert received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary and Physical Education in 1968. But before he got an opportunity to walk across the stage to receive his degree, his grandmother excitedly called to inform him that he had a message from President Lyndon B. Johnson [sound clip of Reville]
Robert was excited that the President of the United States had contacted him personally to be one the representatives of his country during the Vietnam War f
[:00 - :24 of Ray Charles¡¦ America the Beautiful during picture 5] As luck would have it, Robert was shipped to Stuttgart, Germany to serve for two years in the U.S. Army. Robert has a knack for making the most of every situation and infusing his love of athletics into his life and those around him, so while serving as a Military Policeman, he was also Athletic Director and star player on the 385th MP Battalion basketball team. (Scott, maybe a close up shot of coach also on picture 7, he is standing row first person ¡V hands on hips; also maybe a close up of Batteaux¡¦s name in Picture 8)

Robert¡¦s winning personality and natural leadership skills served him well.
In 1970 after two years of Pat, his bride-to-be, waiting patiently for his return, Robert stepped off the plane, into the church [:00 -:03 of Wedding March][show wedding picture] and into the classroom in a matter of eight weeks

Robert¡¦s first job, and the beginning of an illustrious career in education, was as an instructor at Bethune Elementary School in Aldine School District. Robert loves children and bonds with them in such a way that they never forget him.
After two years, Robert went to HISD¡¦s Virgil Grissom Elementary school to teach the fifth grade (maybe a close up of and then a wide shot of his Afro ¡V Scott, am I trying to direct you? ƒº)
[3:18 to 3:26 of Isaac Hayes¡¦ SHAFT]
Also during this time, Robert and his friend Dwight received a Masters of Education Degree in Guidance & Counseling from Prairie View A&M University in 1972 [Yawn sound clip] then [Snore sound clip]
It seems that he gets restless every 2 years, so in 1974 Robert took the position of Athletic Coordinator coaching basketball and football at Fifth Ward¡¦s E.O. Smith Junior High School under the leadership of Principal, Ira B. Scott [Scott, take any portion of the Elementary School Children At Play]
1974 . . . (pause) that¡¦s when paddling was legal (Scott, zoom in on the stick!) [:26 of Whiplashes from Bullwhip then :09-:13 DMX¡¦s Party Up (Up In Here)]
Taking full advantage of his veterans benefits, Robert received a Masters of Science degree in Physical Education from Texas Southern University in 1979
While working as an instructor at Houston Community College from 1978 to 1985, Mr. Batteaux was Coordinator of the Intramural Program, he developed and taught the first jazzercise classes and co-authored the first intramural handbook. His coworkers describe him as funny, dependable and a natural leader.
After rejoining HISD in 1989, Coach Batteaux , shown here with Coach Grawe, was an instructor and junior varsity basketball coach at Stephen F. Austin for one year before becoming head coach of the Jesse H. Jones Senior High School¡¦s basketball team
At Jones High School, Coach Batteaux also taught math; at least that¡¦s what he told the principal! [:04-:18 of Sam Cooke¡¦s Wonderful Word]
Batteaux always remained close to all his students, especially the players he coached, by giving advice and supporting them.
Each year Coach Batteaux looked forward to the Jaycee Tournament Banquet where he could participate in his favorite sport [:01-:06 of Eating Potato Chip sound clip]
(Scott, close up would be funny)
While at Jones High School, Coach Batteaux led his team to two 21-4A district championships in 1995 and 1996 [:35-:48 of Queen¡¦s We Are The Champions]
In 1996, Batteaux accepted his current position as Supervisor of Barnett Sports complex. He loves this position where, in addition to coordinating the facility and staff, he gets the opportunity to see many of his friends and celebrities at games and promotional events [sound clip :06-:13 of Yao Ming Song]
Having retired in 2007, his lovely wife Pat is eagerly waiting for some company at home. [FEMALE VOICE OVER: Robert, your things to do list is GROWING!! (Close up of his face)]

On his part, Batteaux is looking forward to spending more quality time on the golf course with his sons. Upon retirement, he will expect each of these working professionals to cover green fees! [:08-:11 of Driving Golf Balls]
Robert Batteaux has worked for 38 years in education, always integrating athletics and his love for children.

He has mentored countless students and coached youth and adult teams to victory.

He has disciplined with love and always brought laughter and joy to those around him.

He is a husband, father, son and friend¡K.and now he is officially RETIRED. Robert Batteaux¡K..
Congratulations to you!!!!
