Project Main Details
In this case there is specific negligence on the part of the hospital and staff that resulted in the permanent brain damage of an infant at birth. In an emergency C-section the child was born without a heart rate. Resuscitation was performed, but the baby’s brain had gone too long without oxygen and sustained permanent brain damage.
There is a large amount of medical terminology in the script. Our narrator will need to convey the processes in an education way, but as they are speaking to peers, not students. We want to emphasize a feeling of compassion, and convey the devastation of a child’s injury.
We envision a strong, confident female voice, with a southern accent, the case is being tried in the south.
The script starts out explaining anatomy and physiology between the mother and baby. As we progress through the script we will start talking about what occurred in this specific case. This is where more of the emotion will need to come through. We don’t want harsh accusation, but create a feeling of compassion for the mother and baby.
Once we select our voice talent, we will provide pronunciation details. We also prefer to be on the phone during recording in case terminology questions come up.

Mother to baby oxygen exchange while dynamic in nature is quite simple to understand. The uterine artery from the mother supplies the blood to the uterus… which transfers oxygen and nutrients to the placenta.
The baby gets its oxygen and nutrients from the placenta via the umbilical cord, and then returns waste products and carbon dioxide via the umbilical cord back to the placenta…
Zooming in closer now we can be more specific, oxygen is seen transferred from the uterus to the placenta and then on to the baby through the umbilical cord… and again carbon dioxide is transferred from the baby through the umbilical cord, to the placenta and back to the uterus”
Zooming in closer within the umbilical cord, it is easier to see how oxygen travels TO…and waste travels FROM the baby via the cord.
It is important to remember that oxygen is necessary for the survival of the baby and the umbilical cord is the lifeline between the mother and the baby
