Project Main Details

Audiobook Character
This is for a single character in an audio book who is 75 years old and dying of cancer. His voice might sound a little rough because of this. He is very prominently featured in the first few chapters of the audio story. He is a retired physics professor. He would speak with a very intelligent sounding voice, accent would be most anything from North America such as California, Chicago, New York, but not a Southern Accent.

This audiobook will not, at least initially, be sold for a profit. So the budget is very slim, I'm looking at $1,000 for the entire project with me doing all of the editing and sound effects myself.

The professor got out of his car slowly, resting on the car while trying to get his cane. Chris offered to help, but by the time he had made it over to the professor’s car, he had already managed to stand up straight. He climbed up the stairs to his home, the whole time Chris was wondering if he would make the next step without falling over. The professor was jokingly saying, “I’ve climbed these stairs for the last 75 years, and I think I can climb them a few more times.”

As they sat down in the living room, Chris looked around. He could see that the old guy was wealthier than he had expected. He had a lot of expensive things around the house. The place was pretty well kept up and organized too; Chris wondered if perhaps he had a maid service.

“So, I guess you are wondering what it is I asked you here for?” Said the old man.

Chris replied, “Yes, as a matter of fact, I’ve been wondering for the last hour.”

The professor pulled out a folder, one that Chris recognized. He adjusted his glasses and opened the folder and examined his student’s work. “Chris, this is the most unusual work I’ve seen from any of my students.”

Chris replied, “I thought you had retired from your work at the university, I turned that paper in to Mr. Davis, our new physics teacher.” The old man shook his head as if to confirm what Chris had said, and swallowed. He finally said, “yes, yes. But I still keep an interest in the class, and Mr. Davis sent this to me a few weeks ago after he had finished grading it. – He may not be the best physics teacher ever, but he knows his stuff.”

A purple and white cat with the strangest looking red eyes came from around the corner and jumped up onto the couch near Chris. He reached out his hand and pet the cat, looking at its unusual eyes. The cat was very friendly, rubbing up against Chris and purring. He said, “You have a nice cat, professor.” While in the back of his mind, he was wondering if this was some genetic mutation or if the professor was really crazy and dyed the cat’s fur and eye pigments.

“Your not allergic are you?” Asked the professor, seeming concerned.

Chris was still unsure why he was here. He looked around in silence for a moment, then started to say, “Professor Sarhin…” But he was interrupted.

“I had given this as my last assignment before retiring. I had asked the students to use something they don’t often get a chance to – their imagination. I had asked if anyone could theorize a new idea for interstellar travel that was not based on any existing ideas – something new, no matter how absurd it sounded.”

Chris was thinking back in his mind about the paper he had written a month before. He hadn’t given it that much thought after turning in the paper.

“Crazy stuff – that is what I got. Lots of crazy answers – of course I expected that. But out of the 100 papers I got, a few of them caught my attention.”
