The next morning the Captain actually spoke to me like I was from the same species. No screaming or name-calling. He handed me an old rifle with a scope on it. He said, “The target in the distance is at 500 yards. The drop is going to be 19 inches and the drift is 3 inches right to left. Can you hit that target?”
“Not without something to brace against, Sir” I answered.
“Improvise private, hit that target.” The Captain ordered.
(English - Arab Accent for both characters.)
We traveled all of three days and into the afternoon of the fourth, finally arriving at what appeared to be an army camp in the foothills near the Iran /Afghanistan border.
From one of the tents stepped a man I recognized from twelve years earlier. He was the tall man that had been at my father’s office building when my life first became such a puzzling nightmare. “Welcome, my Chosen One” he said. ”Come into my tent and let me explain to you why you are here”.
