As we approach the 30th anniversary of the landmark Hatch-Waxman Act, it's helpful to take a look back at our achievements.

On Sept. 24, 1984 the White House Rose Garden was buzzing with excitement. It's hard to imagine that President Reagan, Senator Hatch or Representative Waxman could envision
the extraordinary success that continues to be the hallmark of the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act. But look how far we've come.

In 1984, generics made up 19 percent of prescriptions. Just a decade later, the share of generics doubled to 36 percent. Today, generics make up 84% of the market.

The success of generic medicines is absolutely critical to patients, payers, providers, businesses and government. But, it didn't happen overnight....
