Although the children of Haiti and the Dominican Republic were born into a life with very few opportunities, God has made each of these children special and He has a plan for each life.
Just like our kids… they love to smile and laugh.
Just like our kids…they love to run and play in the sunshine.
Just like our kids…they love their friends.
Just like our kids…they are bright and creative!
Just like our kids…they are loved by parents who want them to be safe and happy.
Just like our kids…these children are lost without the hope and saving grace of Jesus.
Just like our kids… these children want a safe and nurturing place to grow up. But, their world is unkind and dangerous.
The Dominican Republic and Haiti are places of desperate poverty and desolation…
Tiny 2 room huts, mud floors and leaky thatched roofs are the norm in villages all across these countries.
Many children live in homes where clean water is not available and healthy food is scarce. Starvation and malnutrition inhibit mental and physical development.
With an average income of less than $400 per year, most struggle on a daily basis just to survive.
Only about one half of Haiti’s children attend school, and only about one half of the total population can read and write.
Approximately two-thirds of adults are unemployed, leading to high rates of delinquency, drug and alcohol abuse, and prostitution.
The spiritual darkness can be overpowering as well.
The majority of people in Haiti and a great number in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC practice Voodoo, a religion of bondage to Satan that offers the people no hope of freedom or joy.
Death and disease leave families shaken. In Haiti, 1 in 8 children dies before the age of 5. 1 in 20 adults has HIV/AIDS, leaving many sons and daughters orphaned.
The children want desperately to better their lives, but without the ability to read and write, they are caught in the downward spiral of illiteracy and lifelong poverty.
It seems like a hopeless situation, but these lives can be transformed through God’s love and with the help of people just like you!
This mission offers children a life changing opportunity, which encourages children to reach for their full potential.
This program builds schools, employs teachers, provides a Christian education, godly role models, and a nutritious meal every school day to nearly 3,000 children.
The mission also offers schools employ Christian teachers and staff with a deep commitment to the Lord. An emphasis on order and discipline results in an excellent learning environment and high academic standards. Our students are rated in the top _____% of school children in their countries. Many of their teachers are graduates of our schools. Through their Christian example and Biblical instruction students are being lead to Christ.
It’s hard to be a good student on an empty stomach. Nutrition programs provide a hot nutritious meal to almost 3,000 students every school day. It is the only meal many students will receive. Within weeks of receiving these meals, the children exhibit great improvements in alertness, energy, health, and concentration.
Through discipleship, pastors and Christian leaders act as role models for young men and women. These students are given the opportunity to use and develop the unique skills and gifts that God has given them.
And most exciting…Lives that were once overshadowed by a lack of possibilities are becoming transformed. These kids are becoming passionate about reaching their communities for Jesus. And God is calling young people to be the next generation of Christ-centered leaders in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
God is working in lives like Manuel’s.
Manuel was born into a poor neighborhood to parents with very little money or possessions. Like many children in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC and Haiti, Manuel wasn’t guaranteed an education. He didn’t have the certainty of a bright future.
But one person far away, who Manuel never even met…cared!
That one person shared out of God’s blessings and abundance,
and it was COMPLETELY LIFE CHANGING for Manuel.
Through the prayers and support of Manuel’s sponsor and with the help of the mission school, Manuel has grown to be a bright, friendly, and responsible young man. When you ask this Possibility Kid where God is leading him…”to be an evangelist” is the answer!
Hungry to learn and to grow in the Lord, Manuel is being closely mentored and has read every book in his pastor’s library.
His gentle attitude and solid character provide an example that is respected and admired in his village.
Through Manuel’s preaching and servant leadership, many others are being challenged to live for the Lord.
What that one sponsor did for Manuel is having a multiplying effect with eternal results!
There is also Nancy…a graduate who attends medical school in her nation’s capital, through a scholarship from Mission Possible. She plans on ministering to others through her medical services. She regularly makes trips back to her village, serving as a mentor to young girls as she helps to coordinate a Troup. This group travels all over their country to share Christ through their unique music and dance.
Yomaira is a girl in the program with the heart of a true servant. This warm and loving young woman has been hired by the school to assist the teachers and staff with school supplies, meal preparations and in any situation where extra help is needed. Her experience there inspired her to attend college, where she is studying to become a teacher through a scholarship from tne mission. Although the mission school and church have become like a second home to Yomaira, she returns to her childhood church on Sundays where she can be a light to her community with her testimony and example. Yomaira has so much potential…and she is being equipped and encouraged to reach out and to share the Good News of Jesus with many others in her country.
Yeri excelled in music and computers at mission in his school. Now he helps to lead the Saturday youth group where he plays his saxophone and keyboards. Kids get excited about God through Yeri’s words of encouragement and challenge. His personality is magnetic and his excitement for God is contagious!
When you visit Yeri’s house, you will see how Yeri has proudly displayed his diploma and a picture of himself in his cap and gown. Within his very humble home, with sunlight peeking through the cracks in his walls, you might be surprised to see a computer that Yeri built himself from spare parts! This picture is worth 1000 words in communicating the mission!...helping kids find their God given potential no matter what life’s circumstances.
These young people are fruitful leaders in their communities because people just like you chose to give them a chance by taking that first step in sponsoring a child.
