Project Main Details
The character is an 8 year old girl called KIRA, she is a tomboy, from a middle class background. She is imaginative, playful, energetic and strong willed. If you could just read her lines that would be great, but must be in reaction to scene etc. The same character is shown in the story later on at age 18 years old. If you could voice the character when older also that would be good (will forward script excerpt after this is reviewed).

EXT. RESIDENTIAL STREET – MORNING
It’s a fine day with an azure blue sky and yellow sunlight drenching the buildings. Two children chasing each other make their way down the sloped street, laughing a playing. Young Kira is eight years old, her friend Boy is a little taller than her in height.
KIRA
Hold it right there space ranger! This is the end of the road for you and all the Jupiter rescue crew. I’ve jammed all communications, your calls for help won’t be heard. Now, let’s move nice and slow.
Boy remains still for a minute, then avoids Kira by launching himself into a sprint down the street.
KIRA
Whoa, wait for me! Oh wait. …………Boy, Stop!
Boy stops immediately. Kira jumps onto Boy’s back and hangs around his neck. She immediately flys into another game, this time cowboys and indians.
KIRA
Giddy up horsey, Sunchaser and his tribe are gaining on us. Let’s go…..
Kira and Boy run off into the distance.
FADE IN mid conversation.
KIRA
……..well he needs to go swimming everyday. Sophie in Class 2 told me that frogs need to be near water all the time or they die. Anyway that’s why we took him back to the pond in Kito woods.
They walk past a burial ground. Squeaking sound off screen
KIRA
Hey, listen, did you hear that? There’s something there.
BOY
What do you think it is?
KIRA
There’s only one way to find out, let’s go and have a look.
The two children venture into the burial ground cautiously. The squeaking sound gets louder as they move past various shrines and memorials. They find themselves with a closed cardboard box that seams out of place, at their feet. The squeaking is obviously coming from here. Kira kneels and peels back the flaps. Inside is a small abandoned white kitten, looking back at them.
KIRA
Wow, she’s so cute.
Boy watches as Kira reaches inside the box to stroke the ball of fluff.
KIRA
Where’s your mummy? I think somebody’s left you here. What do you think?
BOY
Yes it is likely.
KIRA (excited)
Doesn’t matter, we can look after you, today, tomorrow…..forever!
Kira picks up the kitten and holds it close to her chest while stroking. It begins to purr.
KIRA
Oh she’s purring come and feel.
Boy moves closer and Kira places the kitten in his arms. Boy cradles the creature as Kira searches around the box and immediate area.
BOY
Yes purring, ……shouldn’t we tell mummy and daddy., though.
KIRA
Listen, she’s only got a blanket in there, and I bet she’s hungry. Let’s get her some breakfast. Don’t cry little kitten we won’t be gone long. Do you remember the place where mummy let me hold the biggest egg in the world? There will be food there!
