Public Lead - 9471571 - Soft, warm female voice needed for video
9471571
Looking for a soft warm voice. The video is to help raise awarness about Domestic Violence in the community. The pace of the Voice Over would be a medium to slow pace. The woman's voice needs to represent a firm yet gentle woman. She is comforting these abused women and at the same time letting them know they can get away from this and get help.

Domestic Abuse Program YWCA

OPEN

We hear low, dark music begin to play while we are still in black. We fade into a POV camera shot where a male is shouting at a female…as he continues to get aggravated he strikes her across the face (shot then fades out)…Fade in shot of woman talking on phone…a man comes around the corner and rip’s the phone from her hand…cut to him and we see him say who are you talking too…cut to woman with confused look on face…we see phone thrown and slammed against the wall (shot then fades out)…Fade in shot of man and woman talking so it appears…the women then starts to walk away…as she does the man grabs here and throws her against the wall(shot then fades out)

(the mood of the video at this point is fairly down and dark…this pace is slow and soft)
VO:
Domestic violence…it’s all around us every day. Big cities…small towns….and yes, very much present right here in Dubuque. No one is immune to its devastating effects...to its lingering threat. Physical…mental….emotional… all types of abuse. In Dubuque alone hundreds of domestic abuse cases are reported every year. There’s a high percentage of cases never known about…never discussed…never helped…often they will suffer for years…alone.
(Now your up to a medium comforting pace…your letting these woman know there is help out there)
But this doesn’t have to be… The Dubuque Community Y’s Domestic Violence Program is working to bring help and hope back to those who so desperately need it.

LOGO and music swell

Sr. Charla: (10:10)
Domestic violence doesn’t respect anything. (08:50) one out of four women suffers domestic abuse in her life time we’re talking over 10,000 women in our city have or are currently involved in a domestic violence relationship. No one has any right to ever slap or hit or call you something derogatory you have a right to be yourself and be appreciated as who you are…(09:50) we need to let people know we exist because there are lives that need to be touched that don’t know there’s a place to get help.

Jill (Tape #2 15:58)
By educating community…they can stand up and say this is wrong we need to do something to stop this…domestic violence isn’t something that we should turn our heads away from its something that happens to people and it hurts people…

Kat: (Tape #2 10:00)
…it’s about respect and it’s about safety for everyone…this isn’t a women’s issue, this isn’t a victims issue…this is a human’s issue and I think a lot of people forget that and they just kind of push that aside.

(This is still a medium comforting pace)
VO:
Domestic violence can be a well kept secret. At times, we barely even know that it happens…when in reality it can be happening right next door to you. Victims often refuse to come forward because they fear the reaction of friends and family.

Alice
Some women are very scared their very frightened. I know of one case were the woman said you know my spouse is out in the car and he’s timing me. The staff offered to call the police and everything and she um refused to do that. She said no something will happen to either me or you. The Y is a very important program...There are women around us who are…in need of that and it can prevent some very serious injuries or some deaths.
(Medium comforting pace)
VO:
In the time of a crisis a victim needs immediate help…The YWCA Domestic Violence Program is unique in that they work with victims that are in crisis.

Sheriff Ken Runde (Tape #3 29:33)
The fact that they can come and meet with the victim immediately makes all the difference in the world. That’s going to be the time when they have the biggest impact on the victim they’ve reassured the victim that they can help them and that they will be with them and they’ll stand by them. Domestic Violence is a disturbing crime and we do need the support of the rest of the community out there and until we get the support of the rest of the community we’re not going…to see a change in what is going on out there in the crime of domestic violence.

Sr. Charla:
You don’t allow your self to be abused…the power of the abuser is stronger then you are and if somebody recognizes that I’m hoping they’re saying if I can’t do this my self if I can’t break away, I now know someone that will do everything it takes to help me do that. And I like to encourage that women to use the phone or get in touch with us and say I want to stop this in my life and I want some help.

Jill (Tape #2 23:33)
We are able to empower them to educate them to let them know that they can build the strength up to get out and that there is away to get out, there is hope…we give them the options that they have that they can save their lives with.

Fade to White

Fade In

Terri
I’ve come a long way…I’m proud of that because of what I had to endure and get out of.

Terri
It was not very visible I mean out in the community you would think everything was fine…and I hid things well cause I didn’t want anybody know I was having problems.

Terri
He was going through one of his…I hate everybody in the world things…he had kept me and my children locked in one bedroom in the house and we had just stayed in their.

Terri
I find my self sometimes a little paranoid if a car follows me for to long…you know I’ll turn down a different block and I think that’s just the back of my mind because I think OK…just because… I haven’t heard from him in a while doesn’t mean that he’s not so mad he hasn’t gotten somebody else to look for me.

Terri
He’s currently serving 60 something years for homicide I mean he went on to the next one and…he had tied her up and raped her and…it just sent chills through me.

Terri
I have hope now…I have hope now. And I hope that I can help…other women…you know to say ok I’ve been there, I’ve done that and there is life afterwards.

Fade to White

Marie
He started in on one of his rages and I couldn’t take it anymore and I called 911 because we had a situation and he was taken away and was arrested.

Marie
And when he did come back he was not apologetic what so ever and he gave me a list of things that I needed to do to make it up to him for what I had done to him and I knew he was never going to get it

Marie
Because I had talked to the people at the Y and all of a sudden things started clicking in my head…it’s like this is what I need to do I need to get out of this relationship because
it made me feel less of a person.

Marie
At the Y they care about you as a person and they care about your children and they want to help in what ever way that they can.

Marie
My future…I know that I have a lot to offer and I love myself.
(Now pace is medium and really hopeful. You are sending these women on their way to start a new life. Happy and comforting)
VO:
Terry and Marie are just a few of the many who have taken a journey from abuse to empowerment… a journey that requires unbelievable courage and strength. Some journeys are short…while others take more time…but in the end a new life is born…one with dignity, self-respect and hope.

Sr. Charla: (Tape #1 26:55)
I think everything we do is leading up to the moment were somebody will come into one of our offices and say I think I am ready to go. I remember Martina McBride’s song about the bird with the broken wing and the incredible thing I think that’s what hope means hope is acknowledging our brokenness our limitations and saying in spite of all of that I can become I can fly...Hope means um it’s not the end it’s only the beginning.
