Script Details

Yes
YOUNG BOY
Comin' Ma. (The boy races away from the buildings toward the coach.)
SFX- Right exterior-sounds of hitching up horses to stage
STAGECOACH DRIVER
(Sternly to boy) Slow down. You’re gonna spook the horses.
(Mutters to British Gentleman) Darn young’uns, ain’t got a lick of sense.
BRITISH GENTLEMAN
(Haughtily) Will they be traveling with us all the way to St. Joe?
STAGECOACH DRIVER
Don’t rightly know.
JUMP TO:
YOUNG BOY
Ma, look what got on the coach with us at the station!
SFX- Sound of rattlesnake rattle
YOUNG BOY
(laughing) See what I found in the station (shakes the rattle again).
WOMAN
(Sternly) Give me that rattlesnake tail! Now, you apologize to everyone for
scaring them.
YOUNG BOY
Yes, ma'am. (Apologetically) Sorry.
BRITISH GENTLEMAN
Young whippersnapper, this coach is crowded, hot and dusty. Your manners
are . .well...deplorable. We have an interminable ride so please be quiet and
look out the window. Surely you can discover something out there to occupy
yourself. Now, I require sleep.
JUMP TO:
Scene of buffalo
YOUNG BOY
Ma!
WOMAN
(wearily) What now, child?
BRITISH GENTLEMAN
Can't you curb that child's enthusiasm?
YOUNG BOY
But, Ma, look! It’s buffalo.
BRITISH GENTLEMAN
(Excitedly) My heavens, aren't they magnificent.
I've heard stories of the shaggy beasts,
but have never seen any in their native habitat.
WOMAN
When we came west, we had to stop several times
because the herds were blocking the trail.
BRITISH GENTLEMAN
Makes the $150 I paid for this journey worth the price.
JUMP TO:
STAGECOACH DRIVER
Folks, we will be here for a short while. Get something to eat.
There's a wash basin there by the station,
even a place to clean your teeth and comb your hair.
BRITISH GENTLEMAN
Do you really expect me to utilize a
comb that’s been used by a stranger?
STAGECOACH DRIVER
Makes no matter to me.
WOMAN
Come on Francis, you are filthy. We will wash our faces.
Perhaps some of these troops know your father.
BRITISH GENTLEMAN
If I can just find some ice for my whiskey,
I may survive this trip.
