VO 1 The A&E department at Musgove park hospital, Taunton – Sunday. Traditionally the busiest day of the week
VO 2 Jane Keith arrives by ambulance. She has a shattered elbow
VO 3 She injured it last night but only realized how seriously this morning
VO 4 Miguel Ruano has broken his ankle in a moto X accident
VO 5 Miguel has a triple fracture and dislocation of his ankle and leg. It will need resetting, or “reducing” before almost certain surgery.
VO 6 Miguel is given a strong sedative
VO 7 Once the ankle is back in position Miguel slips into a deep sleep
VO 8 Paramedics arrive with 43-year-old Angie Bransom. She is having a heart attack.
VO 9 The team’s first job is to confirm the diagnosis and then to administer powerful clot busting drugs – a process known as thrombilisys
VO 10 Sunday is the busiest day in the department and adding to this pressure is the lack of available beds in the hospital
VO 11 patients are queuing out of the doors and more are expected
VO 12 jenny and Helen are plastering Jane’s shattered elbow. She still can’t remember how she did it.
VO 13 orthopedic surgeon Rob XXXXXX will operate on Jane’s elbow
VO 14 in resus Angie Bransom is stable and resting and Mala is happy with the results of her treatment
VO 15 The waiting room is filling up as more and mnore people arrive at the department
In majors registrar constantin jabarin is called to see a 13 year-old boy with breathing difficulties
VO 16 Matthew Roden’s condition deteriorates quicklyand con takes the decision to move him to the resus room

VO 17 Matthew Roden has serious breathing difficulties – his airway is narrowing and he is unable to fill his lungs properly. Registrar constantin jabarin
VO 18 A breathing specialist arrives to help withj mattew’s treatment
VO 19 They decide to give matthew a vapourised drug to open up his airway in the short term – and call for more experienced backup
VO 20 As nurse in charge today it’s Mia’s job to make sure the department runs smoothly but she has patients waiting for beds and no beds to put them in
VO 21 the lack of available beds means the government’s 4 hours see and treat target is becoming tricky to manage. Several patients are at risk of breaching the target
VO 22 Matthew is wheeled off for further treatment
VO 23 Martin’s getting plastered
