Project Main Details
It's a Canadian presentation, so a neutral North American accent is essential (no regional accents please).
We're looking for a professional sounding voice and a relaxed, slow-ish presentation style (to match the pace of the PowerPoint slide show). But also a tonality that is expressive and interesting
The recorded files need to be uploaded to our ftp site by Sunday afternoon (March 5th).
The purpose of this recording is to replace a recording that the client is very happy with. As some of the text has been changed a new recording has to be made. Our goal is to get the new performance as close as possible to the old recording.
We will make the old recordings available for you to dowload and listen to. They should be used as a guide to both style of voice, pacing and inflection.
The delivery format should be 16-bit mono .wav files, uploaded to our ftp site. Please be careful to avoid clipping, distortion or overcompression. I'd prefer to have an unprocessed voice recording as we can add compression, eq etc. if necessary in our studio here.
In the script, performance instructions are provided in square brackets [like this]. There is no need to read the slide headings e.g. SLIDE 1.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism; our acronym is CATT. [Pronounced "cat"]
CATT is often expressed as a National school without walls where high school students build their academic skills through hands on activities with business partners. This concept of demonstrating learning, offers a powerful way to improve the quality of education for students.
The Academy is a charitable organization that works in partnership with the tourism sector and education organizations. CATT is industry sponsored and education driven. A win/win situation for all stakeholders.
CATT’s mission is “To introduce and promote careers in the Tourism Sector while students pursue their high school studies.”
Students enrolled in the program follow the regular high school curriculum with a “specialization” in tourism. The Academy appeals to students’ practical interests but does not limit their future academic options.
The program offers students in Grades 10, 11, and 12 the opportunity to acquire the skills and experience needed to begin a career in tourism though courses accredited by the Ministry of Education at the provincial and territorial levels.
As well Canadian high schools can be involved at 3 different program options: Gold, Level II and Level I. Each program option has specific standardized criteria for a student to achieve success at that level. Each program option has relevant industry resources and hands-on experiential curriculum for educators.
These are CATT’s National partners.
These industry stakeholders finance the operations of the National Academy program. The funds are allocated towards curriculum development, teacher training, student projects and co-ordination.
In addition Specialty Partners support enrichment projects that enhance CATT’s programming.
CATT is partnered with the Global Travel & Tourism Partnership - GTTP. Their mission is to provide an understanding of the role that the Travel & Tourism industry plays in both the local and global economy, and to stimulate interest on the part of young citizens in participating in the industry.
The National Industry Advisory Group oversees the academy, offering approval and guidance to our strategic plan, policy and budget.
Tourism Education Councils in each province and territory, partner with CATT to support expansion and maintenance of the Academy’s programs. Ministries of Education support school board initiatives with CATT.
Each participating Gold Academy school forms its own Academy Management Team comprised of the Secondary School Co-ordinator, the Principal, Vice Principal and the teachers teaching Academy-specific courses. This team guides the program and monitors progress. A Local Industry Advisory Group supports industry activities. The students are also partners in the Academy acting as informed Tourism Ambassadors.
[Emphasis CAN DO in the appropriate sentence of the following paragraph]
The national Academy is based on 10 learning outcomes that are referenced to the Transferable Skills Framework of the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council and representational of the Conference Board of Canada Employability Skills 2000 plus and Human Resource Skills Development Essential Skills.
Gold Academy students must demonstrate their completion of these learning outcomes. Level II and Level I Academy students are expected to be introduced to the learning outcomes in the academic and experiential programs. These learning outcomes are reliable demonstrations of what the Gold High School Graduate Academy student CAN DO at the end of the Academy program. They offer accumulated accountability of their academic, experiential and work experience in the travel and tourism sector.
CATT students can receive one or more national certificates.
CATT Gold students graduate from high school with a national gold certificate. This could provide them with preferential entry to participating colleges or universities after achieving their high school graduation requirements.
Level II and Level I Academy students also acquire national certificates at the appropriate level when they have completed the program criteria.
Achieving a CATT National Certificate is a collective effort.
As parents or guardians, CATT needs YOU connected to Academy expectations and to your child.
As teachers, YOU receive professional development opportunities and
promote a positive learning climate.
For schools, this business-education partnership model provides important links to the local, provincial, national and global community.
[Emphasise DO]
For students, it’s an opportunity to DO, offering enrichment at all levels.
Tourism related employment represents 10% of the Canadian Job market- that is over 1.6 million jobs.
CATT students have work experience in these 5 industries….
[Pause after each of the following]
• Accommodations
• Transportation
• Travel Services
• Food and Beverage Services
• Recreational & Entertainment
The CATT high school graduate will understand the depth and challenges of the Travel & Tourism sector across these 5 industries. In turn, graduates will bring the necessary skills, enthusiasm and leadership qualities required for this industry to continue to grow.
[Emphasise NOW!]
These are a few of the tourism occupations at the entry-level employment. Whether students choose to volunteer in their community or take a part-time job, he or she can start accumulating industry experience NOW! With the right attitude, tourism career opportunities are numerous.
Industry sponsors like American Express say that it is important to: “Invest in Academy youth, encouraging skill development for a better tomorrow. The flexibility to excel starts in high school programming.”
Teachers say: “The most beneficial parts of CATT are the professional development opportunities, exposure to industry, and national and international networking. A win-win situation for both the student and the industry.”
And students say: “Employers will be more apt to hire us because we’ll have work experience. More importantly, the program is helping me become more aware of my own abilities - the real key to a great future!” Welcome to the Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism; our acronym is CATT.
