Some 3.5 million people are seriously in need of food relief, the Kenyan government announced this week. A prolonged drought following failed rains is the cause of the crisis.
According to the New York Times, dozens of Kenyans have died from drought and blistering heat in recent weeks, and livestock are perishing in large numbers, which is further bad news for those suffering from the food crisis.
According to the minister of special programs, John Munyes, a report from its rapid assessment team shows that people living in 37 districts across the country are in dire need of food and water.
