Script Details
U-turns can be made in quiet rural or residential areas on a wide street or at an intersection IF they are legal, and IF you have enough space and time to conduct the turn without interfering with other traffic.
Never attempt a U-turn on a hill, or in a curve – OR in heavy traffic.
Be sure you have a clear line of sight at least 500 feet in each direction. Continuously search for potential obstacles and traffic hazards.
When you have no traffic ahead identify a location with enough space to make the turn without going off the road.
Reduce your speed and position your vehicle in the right side of your lane. Stop the vehicle and signal your intention to turn left.
Turn your steering wheel sharply to the left and execute the turn, moving forward slowly. Complete the turn, straighten your wheels, and proceed forward to the speed of traffic.
