Betty has the voice of a healthy, active senior. Vera, also a senior, sounds more frail and hesitant.
Vera: Oh, hi, Betty. I thought Tommy had forgotten his key again. It’s nice to see you!
Betty: Hi Vera. It’s nice to see you too! I was just passing by and thought I’d stop in. I haven’t seen you in ages! How have you been lately?
Vera: Oh, you know. I’ve been doing okay. Would you like to come in?
Betty: Sure, I’d love to. Shall we sit down for a bit? We can have a nice little chat and catch up. …It’s a bit cold in here, isn’t it?
Vera: Oh, yes, Tommy likes to save on hydro. You know him! (laughs) He says I just need to wear an extra sweater. He’s always telling me I just don’t dress properly for the temperature, but I’m okay once I get some extra layers on and my nice electric blanket.
Betty: Oh, okay. Are you sure you’re comfortable?
Vera: Oh, yes, I’m just fine. How have you been?
Betty: I’m doing well. Thank you for asking. You’re looking a bit thin, Vera. How is your appetite lately?
Vera: Oh, it’s alright.
Betty: Are you eating enough?
Vera: Well, Tommy does the shopping now and he doesn’t always get what I like or he forgets to pick up some of the things I need, but I can’t complain.
Betty: I hope he remembers that you need your regular meals and snacks. You have to think of your diabetes, Vera.
Vera: I know, I know. I try to remember.
