30 SOMETHING MALE: I remember what it was like to be a little boy afraid of the dark
Music begins playing
An eight-year-old boy came into our ER, and needed to be admitted to our pediatrics unit, located on an upper floor. His grandma told us that he was recently stuck in an elevator and was terrified of getting into them.
We knew what we had to do.
The doctor asked the little boy if he wanted to walk upstairs or be carried. The boy said he wanted to be carried. Just like that our doctor picked him up – IV pole and all – and carried him up four flights of stairs. He just relaxed in his arms as his fears were eased.
This might not sound like an average day on the job…but I work for St. John Health. You see, when I decided to work in health care, I made a commitment. But when I chose St. John Health I made a promise.
