There are three main FCC components:
The reactor: All cracking reactions occur here.
The regenerator: Catalyst is renewed in the regenerator, where it is is sent back to the reactor for additinoal cracking.
The fractionator: Products from the reactor are separated in the fractionaor.
---
Preheated hydrocarbon feedstock travels to the bottom of the riser where it meets very hot regenerated catalyst.
---
The feed vaporizes and forces the catalyst and hydrocarbon mix up the riser.
--
The hydrocarbon feedstock is cracked as it passes up the riser.
--
Next, the feed enters the reactor cyclones and much of the catalyst from the oil vapor is removed.
---
As oil vapors whirl through the cyclone, centrifugal force causes the catalyst to be deposited on the cyclone walls.
--
Then, the products leave the reactor and go to the fractionator.
---
At the same time, catalyst returns to the regenerator.
--
At the top of the regenerator, cyclones separeate any remaining catalyst from the flue gas.
Flue gas consists of leftover air, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide.
--
Flue gas passes to the teritiary cyclone.
--
The regenerated cat is fluidized with steam and flows back to the riser
where it passes energy to the incoming feedstock, and the cycle starts again.
