Per our SOUNDEX numbers the NASDAQ wound up its best month in a year and a half today, ending May 146 points higher than it began the month. The Dow gained 2.7 percent for the month and the S&P 500 advanced 3 percent. No full on recovery yet but you can see it from where we're standing.
Giant Surprise: The Supreme Court overturned the 2002 criminal conviction of Enron Corp's accounting firm yesterday, that is Arthur Anderson, boldly obliterating the government's biggest victory that happened at the tip-top of 1990s bull market.
The court ruled unanimously that while the Arthur Anderson accounting firm may indeed have wily-nily shred reams of key Enron financial documents, the Houston jury was given overly broad instructions from the federal judge who presided at the trial. So yet another hand from deep in the Enron cookie jar gets nary a slap in the wrist.
