Script Details
Storytelling… Communicating knowledge, wisdom, traditions, spirituality… identity. And connection… Connection to the earth… Connection to humanity... And the elements of existence… To the Creator... The connection to one’s family… grandparents… and ancestors.
The medium of storytelling has evolved significantly over time. Perhaps regrettably, the ancient firelight setting for storytelling is becoming less common. Television, computers, and various forms of hi-tech entertainment continue to result in enormous changes in the way we communicate. The effect of today’s rapid-pace existence can be witnessed in our perception of time. Once a vague concept, “time” has become a valued commodity. Many traditional customs - including storytelling – face the real threat of becoming extinct.
Firelight Media appreciates the significance of traditional storytelling to the Nations of Turtle Island and the consequences that could result from losing this and other traditions. Our mission is to preserve the voices, the stories, and the images of Native American values, beliefs and ways of life by utilizing today’s technologies. We believe that this is a very critical point in time and that the connections to a prior and honored way of life may soon be forgotten unless sincere and immediate steps are taken.
