Boy:
I used to only trade things, especially with my friends and family, but I realize now that there are things that I can get on my own, with my own money. Our ancestors used the trading system to get the things that they couldn’t make or grow themselves. It was also known as the "barter system"
The trading system is no longer the best for me. Sometimes I want to hold on to the things that I already have, and at other times I need to add to what I already have. I remember when I had some grown ups like aunts that would give me things or money, that was cool, but I couldn’t rely on it…I have a playstation and I want some games but I need money to get them. I discovered that when I helped around the house I would get money; I could use that money to do or to buy things I wanted.
Girl:
We don’t always agree what things are worth. Sometimes, depending on our interest, things are worth more to me than for him. For example, the other day we were at the mall. I love playing basketball, so to me a good pair of tennis shoes are worth a lot to me. They give me the support I want and help me in my game. I was telling him that I would be willing to pay up to $100.00.
The point is that you alone can decide what money is worth to you. You are the one that can give money its true value. I really don’tknow how much an item is worth to you, but I can tell you what it is worth to me.
