21 year old Vietnamese woman with HPV ZD593957
We’re creating an online course for volunteers who help underprivileged people get screened and tested for HPV and cervical cancer. I need someone to read the part of Mai, a 21-year-old who’s tested positive for HPV. She's scared to go back for her follow-up test, and in this script, she's talking to a health worker about it. This should sound very conversational.

My name is Mai. I'm 21 years old and live in Las Vegas. I work part-time at a restaurant in the mall and I'm going to school full-time at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I live at home with my family. We immigrated to the US from Vietnam when I was just six. I have lived here most of my life. I think of myself as being very American, but my parents and family spend all their time with Vietnamese people. They haven't tried to understand the culture here. A lot of the time I feel like my parents just don't understand my life or the decisions I make. I've been having sex since I was 18. A couple weeks ago I had a Pap smear when I went to get my birth control pills. They told me it was abnormal and that I have HPV. I haven't told my family about this – I don't want them to know that I am having sex because we don't talk about these things. Someone at the doctor's office - I don't know who it was - told me that I have to go back to the health center for some kind of follow-up thing. I don't know why I have to go back. Between work and school and family, I don't have time. I don't have a doctor that I go to regularly and it seems like it would be a big production to make those appointments. My friends say that lots of people have HPV and that it's not usually a big deal. Also, I'm young and I've never really been sick, so there's no reason for me to go to the doctor. Since I live with my family, I'm also worried that if I go back to the doctor for this my parents may ask questions and somehow find out that I am having sex.
