The New York Times - Published June 16th 1920

Simplicity marked the wedding yesterday afternoon of Miss Maud Emily Kahn, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto H. Kahn, and Captain John Charles Oakes Marriott, Scots Guards, which was celebrated in the picturesque little church of St. John, nestling on the north shore at Cold Spring Harbor, L.I.

A special train from the Pennsylvania station brought the New York guests to the church ceremony, and later another train took down several hundred for the reception which followed at the country estate of the brides parents at Woodbury, L.I.

The path of the bride as she left the church was strewn with white sweet peas, so thickly that her path became a veritable carpet of flowers. The church was one mass of bloom. During the ceremony the song of the birds could be heard outside. Preceding the ceremony a quartette, consisting of harp, violin, cello, and organ, played some of the favorite selections of the bride.

The bride walked to the chancel with her father. She wore a gown of soft ivory satin with a very long train of satin depending from the shoulders with a wide flare at the end. The train was edged with orange blossoms and was trimmed with old rose point lace studded with seed pearls. The veil of tulle was fitted over the dark coiffeur, with a circlet of orange blossoms. Her only ornament was a string of pearls, the gift from her parents. She carried a bouquet of white orchids.

Miss Margaret D. Kahn was her sister's maid of honor.

At the reception the young bridal couple received the felicitations of their relatives and friends in the library, under two immense palm trees. Mrs. Kahn the bride's mother, in tan and brown, with a matching straw hat of brown, received the guests as they passed through the great entrance hall to the library.

The house like a great French chateau, with terraces and gardens, commands a sweeping view of the countryside. Many of the guests were on the terrace and in the garden, while others danced in the large ballroom. The buffet collation was served in the east wing of the house, in the immense dinning hall, where two rose trees surmounted the buffet table.

The guest list was a who's who of New York society including Vanderbilt's, Rockefeller's and the biggest names in wall street banking.
