Although oil sand deposits occur in more than 70 countries - including Malagasy, Albania,
Trinidad, Russia, Romania, Australia and the United States - two countries have the largest oil sand deposits in the World - Canada-in the province of Alberta and Venezuela. Alberta's oil sands are the World's largest hydrocarbon deposits. Venezuela's Orinoco Belt contains vast hydrocarbon resources, generally referred to as heavy and extra-heavy crude oil1. Alberta's resources are referred to as crude Bitumen. According to the World Energy Council, the estimated in place resources in Venezuela's Orinoco Belt add up to 1,200 billion barrels, while Alberta's Athabasca in place reserves are estimated to stand at 1,700 billion barrels
