The County Office of Education provides Special Education classes for children with severe, multiple disabilities, medically fragile, and severe emotional and behavioral problems, from birth to age 22.
Early Start Infant Programs assist families with qualified students, birth to age 3, who have orthopedic, vision or hearing problems or other developmental disabilities.
Statistics show early intervention provides a strong foundation for a child’s academic success.
While the Infant Program is basically an in-home program, families join together for playgroups to meet others, help their children learn to play and to make friends.
All our programs use a variety of instructional and behavioral approaches to meet each child’s individual needs.
Families are considered important members of the team, providing additional insights about their child.
Classes located on-site with non-disabled peers foster friendships while providing a rich learning environment.
Each child has an individual plan that may call for specialized services. Highly qualified and trained professional staff provides these services.
Using multiple approaches speech therapy is provided in the classrooms.
We provide intensive programs, using special methods for students with autism.
One such technique is Picture Exchange Communication, where the non-verbal student exchanges pictures for desired items.
Our Occupational Therapist works with children to improve their motor skills.
Special equipment and training are provided for students to enjoy physical education.
An example of assistive technology is this head switch that allows a student to access age appropriate curriculum.
We offer a range of adaptive communication systems, specifically programmed, enabling non-verbal students to “talk” with their teachers and peers.
We provide services for blind and partially sighted students.
Curriculum aligned with California standards is used in all our special education classrooms.
The Visual and Performing Arts curriculum includes a state-of-the-art student-centered video production class.
Grants, like the Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation Grant, allow our students to enjoy special trips and hands on experiences as part of their Science curriculum.
Our programs include the Counseling and Education Program for students in grades
K through 12, who experience severe social, behavioral and emotional difficulties.
The curriculum is academic, standards-based, and individualized to each student’s needs. Students earn credits toward high school graduation. The program stresses literacy and math skills development.
We emphasize problem solving and individual character growth and focus on interpersonal and social skills development that will enable students to return to their home districts.
Counseling is an important part of the program.
Community Based Instruction eases the transition from school to adult life for students ages 18 to 22.
The fully functioning Liberty Café teaches students employment skills.
Both the Liberty Transition and Community College Horticulture programs are based in local communities. Students learn real life skills.
Internships provide real work experience for some students.
Learning to ride public transportation gives students independence and access to employment and recreation in the community.
Our mission is to educate students with special needs in the least restrictive learning environment to enable them to have a productive future.
We use technology, community resources and a team of parents, district personnel and care providers to educate and challenge students so they can become independent and productive members of the community.
