My Voice Experience
I first moved to Chicago 3 yrs ago and went to an open call at an agency and was told that I would have a good voice for voice over work.. I was completely in the dark, and a little cautious, but I moved forward and recorded my demo with Keith Uchima. I took his advice on what to add to my demo, characters, and certain qualities in my voice to be aware of and use to market myself. After making my demo I submitted it with every Voice Over Agent in Chicago. I had gotten some response and began to audition..it was, however, not on a regular basis. I tried again and submitted with several agencies here, and after about 6-8months got called to meet with a fantastic agent. I am auditioning on a more regular basis than before and mostly for commercial work that is well suited to my voice.
This also led to my taking a class with Jeff Lupetin, Chicago Actor Studio, who helped me learn the details of breaking down and reading copy, hearing where my voice is and offering the opportunity to play and see what creative ways I could expand my voice to do more.
I got to try a new southern style character for a gatorade commercial and a fun baby bear voice for The Three Little Bears. I learned how to, as a stage actor, use my breath in a new way suited for voice over acting and read longer copy and tag lines smoothly and clearly.
At this point, I feel new to the voice-over business, but have been auditioning for the past couple of years without booking any work. I am interested in creating opportunities to work as a voice over actor in as many areas as possible.
